That goal was the thin end of the wedge

the ref should have taken responsibility for Bournemouth's goal. remember when Henry poked his foot in when a keeper was taking a goal kick. they disallowed it straight away. if u let goals like this stand, u open the door for all manner of cheap tricks.

running into the keeper when hes throwing the ball out is not football. theres a specific part of the rule book that makes it a bookable offence for anything that is 'against the spirit of the game.' its why u never see a defender hanging off the crossbar if he cant reach a header on the goal line. ur not allowed.

u cant have goalkeepers barged into when theyre rolling the ball out. our game needs protecting and this was nothing short of ridiculous.

as an aside, i think its harsh to blame Simmo. if he'd put the ball on the floor and not realised the kid was behind him (like Shay Given and Dion Dublin or the United one i think we had recently) fair enough, thats his fault. but not checking someone was going to barge him as he rolled the ball is unfair criticism in my book.

It didn't really help Simmo's case that their player had his back to him when Simmo threw the ball into him. Nothing wrong with it as far as I'm concerned. Well, nothing apart from Simmo's piss poor awareness in this instance. For what it's worth I'm not one of these that will have a pop at him for anything he does and he's been playing well lately, but it was his fault on this occasion.

Should it have stood? You're in the realms of relying on match officials and my thoughts on them are elsewhere. Was it preventable? Definately. Here's hoping it's the last time we're talking about Simmo.

Let it go. The history books will say GOAL so lets be thankful it didnt cost us the points

Didn't we have one chalked off away at Reading last season when the keeper threw the ball against Slew's back? Slew was about 5 yards away and just running back to position, but the ref chalked it off cos he didn't see what happened.

The Reading keeper threw it into Henderson, who was about 2 yards away with his back turned. The ball rebounded to Slew, who tucked it away.

I've no idea why that one was disallowed and on the same logic, I've nothing against the decision to allow Bournemouth's on Saturday. Simonsen has to be aware of everything that's going on around him; it's his fault and I'd assume he held his hands up in the dressing room after the game.

Raul: I hope we are talking about Simonsen between now and the end of the season but for something positive!
