Here we go again. Another play off final and another day out in the big smoke. But as with 97 and 08, there is an air of inevitability in the air. There is a glimmer of hope on the horizon, but I feel like a ship in a vast sea of despondency. United are going to lose. You can throw in 2003 into the mix where we came up against a Wolves side on fire. The footballing gods seem to be conspiring against us yet again and I just cannot see anything other than defeat.

In 97 we did the hard work getting past Ipswich, but that game took it's toll. Katchouro was fooked, Henry suspended, Kelly injured and when Hutchinson went off after 10 minutes I knew it was over. The irony (and very much the United way) was that just as I started to believe we'd win, it was snatched from us. I could see And Walker, super sub, coming off the bench to score in extra time. However Hopkin had other ideas.

If we thought that Kendall's tactics in 97 were cowardly, then Blackwell took the biscuit. Running Birminghm close for 2nd, yet lacking any punch I think we all felt we'd lose. We were unlucky with inuries of course and no Henderson and Ward not being fit were big blows. The usless BT couldn't have scored in a brothel. Still, if we kept it tight we had a chance. We've got a cracking back 4 and very good defensive record. Stay solid and we might nick one. We've got Dingle Howard who gets forward, Coterill might supply some magic and one of the Kyle's bombing forward might create something. Oh hang on. 10 mins in and game over. Fook. We should have had a couple of pens, but we got absolutely dicked and really it was a pathetic display.

I am forgetting about that horrendous trip to Cradiff sandwiched inbetween. Geez. Cracking day out until 5 past 3. By quart past we were 3 fucking goals down. Still, if Brownie had scored that pen (did he ever miss another for us?) or Tonge's shot gone the other side of the past, then I felt we'd have come back. But in my heart of hearts I think I knew deep down that United were going to disappoint. That air of inevitability was in the air.

So this time it is Huddersfield. They are not that good, but they have some real punch. Jordan Rhodes is the danger man I I feel he will be the game decider. The Blades probably have the better team, but Huddersfield are more dangerous. There is a chance United might keep Rhodes quiet (the Piggies did it recently) but I feel he may rise to the big occassion. The footballing gods appear to be conspiring against us with Ched in the nick, Cressy on the treatment table and now K Mac being out.

That air of inevitability is in the air. McDonald missing brings back memories of Hutchinson being stretchered of in 1997. The striker situation (with Ched locked up, Cress 30% fit, Beattie suspended and Hoskins sent back) reminds me off 2008. We have a slow cart horse and a headless ckicken as options. Now I hear peple saying that we have goals in us. This is true and Lowton is a brilliant attacking full back, Willo is quality and Quinn dangerous. But can anyone see a situation where we score more than one? Hence it is just like the last time and if we go behind, it seems there is no way back.

I am feeling pretty apathetic, flat and un enthusiastic about tomorrow. Do not get me wrong, I will enjoy the ales in the sun. I'll enjoy the banter and the atmosphere. But I am preparing myself for the worst. I've backed Hudders, Rhodes to score and United not to score a goal. I really hope that I am tempting fate, but just cannot see it. .

But do not worry muckers, we can enjoy a few ales together Portsmouth, Swindon, Crawley and Cheltnham next season. Party at Walthy's house for Orient, some cider drinking in Yeovil and another trip to Brentford (beers by the Thames!)

Any ruad, I am off to Meadowhall, so if we get some luck then that!? Enjoy your days out and think of our lass working on mi shed, whilst you fookers are drinking in the capital!?

That's why I'm feeling like I am !!

Oh and there's always 93 to chuck in too !

But you never know ....

Olle = Gregos Traitorelli.

Feeling a bit dirty??? :-)

You might be right, but if we do go a goal down, I hope none of the doom and gloom merchants are sat near me!!! UTB

Ha ha, I was thinking to mi sen this morning 'fookin ell is it really 4 years since I was cycing in France?' (me n mi mucker went cyclin in Normandy that May) when I realised it was 2008/2009.

I've been supporting Athletico Kebab for years, but have maintained my following of United. Funnily enough, I actualy put the bets on with Paddy Power. 23/10 is cracking odds for United not to score a goal.

But alas, I really hope I am not saying 'I told you so' (again). I really wanterd Beattie to prove me wrong, but just couldn't see it. Cannot see the Blades proving me wrong today unfortunately. Not even a bit of excitement or nerves in sight this morning. Good job I am off to Medders ....

From a West ham fan.

Have a safe day out at Wembley.

Its a long run if you lose but if you win you will fill great.
