Should we play our best side to keep our momentum, or would it be better to give the reserves a chance to show what they can do?

Were our next league game on the 14th I'd have probably gone with our strongest side. But given it's the Tuesday following the cup game, I think we should give a few of the starting XI a bit of a rest. We're yet to give a test to Ertl at centre-half this season, so I'd let him come in for Collins. McDonald and Evans are the others I'd rest. So ideally for me, we'd go with:

Simmo,
Lowton (if not fit, Monty again), Ertl, Maguire, Williams
Flynn, McAllister, Monty (Doyle if Lowton isn't fit), Quinn
Beattie, Porter

dont think beattie will be in the squad unless he signs a new deal. He wont want to be cup tied

Get the youngsters in, fcuk the cup, give the likes of tonne etc a run out

I wasn't aware his contract specified he could choose which games he wants to play. I doubt if we don't extend his deal that his next move will be dependent on whether or not he's available for the FA Cup.

He could fake injury or have the flu again. I still think he will be here till at least feb though

I know its wrong to say 'its only Salisbury' but its only Salisbury. They are in the conference South and our priority is the match v Yeovil after just playing three games in a week. Rest as many of the players as possible, especially Collins & Maguire who have played every game, and the midfield duo who've put a lot in over the last few games. Also, start Beattie so we can see exactly how long he can last. I'd go:

Long
Parrino Ertl LJF Williams

Flynn Monty McAllister Tonne

Beattie Cresswell

We can always have Evans, Quinn, McDonald, Williamson et al on the bench if need be.

It makes sense to give Beattie a full game before his current contract runs out.
Then again if he scored a hat-trick against non-league Salisbury, should we give him a new contract on the strength of it?
Wilson has played his strongest team in the last two rounds, so I think he will do in this one.
Presuming Lowton is still injured, I predict it will be:-

Simonsen
Monty Maguire Collins Williams
Flynn McDonald Doyle Quinn
Porter Evans
Subs:- Long, JFL, Williamson, Creswell, Beattie

Think Long should get a chance to build his confidence. Would like to see Tonne, McAllister and Ertl get a full 90 mins. They should be eager to impress. Ideally DW should have good options in every position for the second half of the season. The 3 mentioned should have the mindset of first team players not just there to fill in for injuries.

I'd probably go with - Long, Conneely, Ertl, Parrino, Williams - Williamson, McAllister, Monty, Tønne - Beattie, Philliskirk....If all are fit. You've got a decent mixture of young and experience then.

I'd like to see him give a few a rest in particular the to centre halfs. I'd be tempted to give JFL a game at centre half, I thought he played really well there against Blackpool pre-season.

FFS It makes my blood boil when people talk about "resting" players WTF they are young fit men who should be thriving on getting as many games under thier belts as possible and winning as many too.

Sure, put out a piss poor side against the non leaguers , lose the game and have the piss ripped out of you for weeks and also watch the crowd turn nasty when you go 1-0 down in the first 5 mins v Yeovil and watch the season fall apart all as a result of "resting" players who do about 3 hours training a day and spend the rest of thier time laid on a sofa playing each other at FIFA 2012 or some other bolox.

Put out the strongest team possible ,if injuries happen they happen thats football and thats when kids and reserves get thier chances

Monty should only be played if our intention is to go out of the FA cup. Yesterday's performance by him was totally inept and only highlighted how much better we when he doesn't play. Selecting him yesterday was DW's worst decision for sometime.

We must give Salisbury full respect, they scored 3 away at Grimsby and came from behind, they must have something about them and they are in a no lose situation. We need the money from advancing to the later stages of the cup. Id rest a couple but not half the team

I'd definately start long, williams, tonne, mcallister and beattie and then add some regular starters in there. I'd like to see tonne get a bit more game time as we need some more options on the wings.

on another note im taking the missus to the lane for the 1st time on saturday in 7yrs. bad idea!

They are 3 divisions below us. If Man Utd played Rotherham do you think they would feel the need to put out a full strength team?

We've been quite lucky with injuries this season. It has enabled Danny Wilson to keep a settled side, which is a good thing. At the same time it's meant that many of our younger players have had little playing time. There's no guarantee they'll get more time on the pitch in the second half of the season. When Lowton was out injured yesterday we put Monty there. By all accounts he was poor. If we're not constantly determined and willing to keep our younger, unproven players involved, the gap between reserve and first team football will just increase.

I think the game on Saturday is a good chance to try out a few players. Regarding the second team suggestion in the poll, they're all decent, they all need match action and I'd expect them to beat Salisbury.

I tend to go with Swollen on this one. On the money they earn then they should be able to perform more than a couple of hours per week.

Yes they are but the gulf between the very top of the Premiership and a mid table L2 club is much greater than the gulf between us and Salisbury. They say there is not much difference between L2 and the Conference.
We should be able to beat them with half the team missing but there have been upsets before with teams fielding weakened sides

I would be worried that amateur footballers may be clumsy and late with their tackles. Should we risk Ched and others against them?

Can't see Ched playing. Much too valuable to the cause and more importantly the others need the experience more than he does. Think we'll see Long in goal, Ertl in defence and probably McAllister in midfield. Philliskirk could also figure as I don't see Beattie being fit enough to last a whole game or anything like it (unfortunately). I have to say though that this wouldn't be my preferred team, just what I think will play.

It's a tough call. Send out a young side who wins and it will breed confidence, send out the same side and they lose and it will destroy it.

What we need to see is send out a side strong enough to see off Salisbury, and it is a potential banana skin.

The Yeovil game is of paramount importance , win it we are back in second and above the massive with their next game at home to charlton and our next game away to Charlton

Balls to the fa cup do we want promotion or not ?

Wilson says we'll put a strong side out, whatever that means. Lowton is regarded 50/50, "if he's fit he plays".

My own opinion on the matter is; play a full strength side, and anything less than 5-0 is not good enough.

This is not a banana skin tie. Who here really thinks we have any chance of losing to Salisbury. Give me a break.

We are only at any risk at all of losing if we make 7 or 8 changes to the team, which we haven't got the balls to do anyway.

Any news on how many tickets have been sold for this one?

For any crowd over 10k I'd say open the kop. Keep the BL Upper, BL Corner and maybe G and H Blocks closed. The two previous cup games have had no atmosphere at all.
