A couple of things stood out yesterday:

The reaction of the senior pros when Adams was sent off. He was still on the pitch and several players were busy sorting out a plan of action with the management: Right this has happened, let's sort it.

The reaction of the players when we scored, obviously Done had done a good job with his run, persistence, and right footed(!) finish, but Collins played a huge part in the goal and his teammates acknowledged that.

Shout out to the ball boy behind Long's goal who really took his time returning to the ball in the last five minutes too.

Also in the last five minutes Hammond was on the edge of their box supporting Sammon, then recovered to our six yard box, to get a header in. This is part of what he brings. It's still a Must do better, given the money he must be on, but he might be getting up to speed.

None of this hides that it was a poor game and it'll be a stiffer test next week, to say the least.

Agree. I thought the team spirit and organisation was very good for the last 20 mins when the senior players stepped up. McEveley in particular showed the form he was in for the first few months of last season

Steady on. This is the third pro-McEveley post I've seen.

Someone even had him as MoM :-)

The reaction of the senior pros when Adams was sent off.

Adams was not at all happy about being sent off and wanted to stop and argue with the referee. Other players were stopping him and pushing him away to avoid any bother. Although he shouldn't have reacted like he did (whatever he did) to get sent off in the first place, to me this indicates that he is bothered and the other players are bothered. Suggestions that he may have done it deliberately to get Christmas off in this instance I think are nonsense.

For those that didn't go you actually didn't miss a lot football wise, and yes after recent performances I can understand not attending but what you did miss was a team of players that within the constraints of their skill level ( or otherwise) actually DO care about playing for united and showed this by holding on for 25 minutes with ten men. The smiles on their faces when the whistle finally blew (5 minutes added time) showed what it meant to them to win, and I don't think it was purely down to them being 5 minutes nearer to the pub!
