I'd go

.........................Long
..........Baptiste Edgar McEveley
Brayford.........................................Flynn
...........Coutts Whiteman Adams
....................Sharp Done

That makes no sense in terms of what Adkins is trying to do

I think this is more likely:

.........................Long
..........Baptiste Edgar McEveley
Brayford.........................................Done
...........Whiteman Hammond Flynn
....................Sharp Adams

Personally I'd play Reed ahead of Hammond.

That's almost certainly the starting eleven. Might have a quid on a Hammond red card.

I'd go same as barney but swap adams for done position wise, thought done at left wing back looked quality v oldam, also the shape was so much better. .........it seemed like we had width albeit against a lesser team but thought we created a lot more with done/flynn in that formation.
Hope we don't do 4-4-2 with hammond.

That's the one ,would swap Howard for Long but that's it.

IMO Adams isn't a front two striker.

Nor is Done a wing back.

Flynn is best from the left when out wide.

So, I'd go:

Long

Basham Baptiste McEveley

Brayford, Whiteman, Hammond, Reed, Flynn

Sharp Done (who plays where he wants to - behind, alongside or in front of the highly versatile Sharp)

Now that is a good team with Adams available on the bench along with Edgar, Sammon, Scougall, Cuvelier, Lewin and Woolford.

Basham and Hammond are awful in midfield together. In fact, they're awful individually in my opinion, but I appreciate not everyone shares that view.

I'd swap Basham with Edgar and drop Hammond for Whiteman or Coutts.

Millwall is not for the feint hearted.
Hammond because of the type of place it is. Reed and Whiteman can then feed off him. But them ball winning on their own no. Whiteman might still be injured anyway.

I am giving you the same expression as Long below!

Whiteman will be available for selection. He said on twitter after the game Saturday that his injury was only a bit of cramp.

If Millwall are planning on attacking centrally at all, it would be a procession through that midfield.

Isn't that the role he played (very well) against Oldham?

Yes and he did. Oldham were really poor down that flank though.

I really like Done who has an edge to his game and that bit of pace and loads of energy. He has been a winger most of his career but really made his mark as a front striker where he did well for us. Positional play and teamwork don't seem to be his strengths, he's more of a lone ranger in my opinion. I'm nervous about his defensive disciplines as a wing back e.g. against Burton who had a field day down that side until things were changed.

I'd love him to earn himself a permanent place in the team but I don't think it'll be as wing back. I hope I'm wrong because I'm not sure he hits it off with Sharp up front.

You've said it there ',hes more of a lone ranger' he only plays well up front on his own ,especially away from home ,but doesn't do so well with a partner and you cant drop Billy ,that would be madness. He played very well at wingback last week and Adkins wont change that ,and so he shouldn't.

If fit, Basham for Egdar would be a consideration.

Edgar is the only one not to receive many plaudits from the switch of system. Basham was outstanding when deployed on the right of the three. It's a position that suits McEveley and Baptiste is arguably better than Edgar but also adds pace.

I read with interest the Done/Flynn/Adams debate. Given the performance last week it appears the former two had their best games there. For the latter, he probably doesn't have the defensive discipline to play much farther back. Flynn is probably more of a team player to be in a three than the other two.

Bit unfair on Edgar ,but I know what you are saying. He has played well though and shouldn't be dropped.

Don't really like Done and Sharp as a partnership. The closest they get to each other once the game starts. . . . Is in the dressing room at HT.

If I'm not mistaken Edgar goes to Canada after the Milwall game and potentially misses Crewe and Southend.

It will be interesting what Adkins settles on after that when all three are available.

He did play alongside Henderson at Rochdale and they both scored loads of goals.

Woody, Sharp used to score a lot alongside Keogh. Wonder if that partnership would still work. Can't be on much in Aus and can't be any less effective than Sammon has proved to be.

I've watched Keogh a fair bit since I was in Perth and he has been much the same as I remember him in England; all action, honest, no remarkable skills but intelligent and experienced, can read the game. Perth had a good season last season and Keogh scored plenty of goals. I've not seen him this season but I notice he's still scoring.

29 years old and plenty good enough for League 1. Not sure I'd swop the Aussie lifestyle for S2 if I were him but an approach must have crossed Adkins' mind.

I also thought he showed promise alongside Steven Davies last season in flashes. But, I’m not convinced by the Sharp/Done partnership. Done has no upper body strength and cannot hold the ball up at all meaning all of the responsibility falls to Sharp which largely nullifies him. Adams isn’t great at holding the ball up but at least takes some of the load. Also, Done is one of the few players who is fit enough to keep bombing up and down all game which is imperative in a wing back.

My concern with Basham-Baptiste-McEveley is that I don’t think any suit the ‘sweeper’ role. Edgar is more suited. A bit more composed and with the height to win most of his headers (McEveley is composed on the ball but gets caught under high balls too much). Baptiste and Basham are at their best attacking everything I think rather than sweeping up behind.

I’d make one change from Saturday and that would be Basham in for Whiteman. The lad did OK but Millwall will be strong, fit and physical and their ground is hostile. I think we need Basham’s combativeness and energy in the midfield and that Whiteman might struggle with both the atmosphere and the opposition.
