While Speed's departure hasn't been confirmed **officially**, the fact that the Welsh FA have called a press conference for tomorrow to unveil their new manager suggests that Speed has gone.

Whoever gets the managers job, I will be behind. However, I would urge whoever is holding the reins at the club to take their time and appoint the right man for the job.

Since Warnock's departure, we've tried "ambitious big name", which didn't work.

We've then tried 2 x "familiar with the club", which almost worked but eventually, hasn't.

I think all three appointments were made in haste and while the league table stresses urgency, the long term success of Sheffield United requires more thought.

So please, whoever is in charge and if you are reading, make the right choice for the right reasons. Not the cheapest choice for the wrong ones.

So that's Phil Brown in by the weekend then?

:D

Agree wholeheartedly. Make the right choice.

PS - that said, a rash ruling out of Ellis or Megson would suit me. ;)

And interview at least 3 candidates and see what they have to offer...

...Then select Phil Brown by the weekend then

As much as the snow started to right get on my tits the other week, the weather might do us a favour.

More snow is forecast for Thursday and should it pile down like it did, a match abandonment would buy us until Boxing Day.

My vote is for Beighton to get the job but he never seems to apply! Get on with it lad.

We will do the usual, cheap and cheerful, semi name in the game with something to prove until someone bigger comes in for in or until our board realise how woeful an appointment they have made and sack them when its too late.

I would love us to go for someone young with hunger and passion for the game and wanting to make a name for himself in the game but I can see us going with Phil brown :(

I would have cried before the weekend if somoeone had mentioned Phil Brown. Looking at other rumours and even the joke that Megson could take over I would happily accept him now. We need someone who can handle this club. I am just preying we let Speed go for the right reason

I know I'm a dirty old man but I'm getting quite excited by the mental image of snow on Linz' tits.

I trust you'll post a pic on here...?

Advert in The Times and see who applies.

I mean 'The Times', can see club putting it in Derbyshire Times!

To be honest, I'd have to grow some first...

Its sad, but the job has been too big for him, and playing six competitive games a year whilst keeping up his media commitments will suit him better. We were supposed to 'welcome the revolution', but have found ourselves playing 4-5-1 with very little idea of what to do to win games. There are obvious problems in the squad, but I've little doubt that under the right stewardship we can do enough to pull away from trouble...

Couldn't agree more, take time to see who shows an interest etc. I would say this is our biggest manager appointment for years. The wrong choice now and it could be we end up in League 1 or worse and we may not be back for a long time

I just hope that McCabe and Birch actually have a plan here and realised the job was too much for him. It could be a stroke of fortune that Wales wanted him at a time when they were looking at the January transfer window and wondering whether to take another risk on Speed and give him some cash. Over the last month/6 weeks Speed's interviews have just become depressing and all I hear about is how we need to be abit foxy with the ref;s. There has been no real substance. I would love for big Kev to wake up and realise that the last 5 years hasn't be the great ride everyone paints it out to be and backs us one last time. We need to pick up promising youngsters ready for the 1st team and develop them, unfortunately we need money to do that. We need some investment in this team and I just hope Kevin understands this. Please make the right appointment and back him

im praying for this too happen, if speed goes and we get a pasting from swansea (who have always been poor at the lane to be fair) then it will get nasty at the lane.

That means fewer games with Andy Reid in the team. :(

Having now had 3 managers already this season and we're not even half way through, I think the thread title is very apt indeed!

The problem we face as a club is that we are very limited in the pedigree and type of manager we can attract given our financial circumstances. Any decent manager with a good track record wont come anywhere near us.

Taking our time is the least we should be doing. Getting the right man with the credentials to keep us up tho, is actually a whole differenet ball game as far as history and our board are concerned

More than a handfull's a waste :D

That, sir, is a myth put about by flat chested waifs and sad blokes who've never had a proper woman.:D

Anyway, patience please, rather than appointing the first cheap idiot through the door. Wait a couple of weeks before the cheap idiot is given the job.
