A bit out of Blades context, but for those of you who have journeyed beyond this thread's subject line, I'm guessing you remember how gorgeous Sheffield's very own Taggy's "Full Butter Milk" Ice Cream was?!?

Sadly the original disappeared, along with its recipe, decades ago. I thought it was completely a thing of the past until I stumbled across it's taste again recently!

Basically, Ice Cream Union produces an identical (Fior di Latte) product in terms of look (pale yellow off-white), texture and taste.

No surprise that Taggy's would have been a butter milk slant on an original Italian recipe.

Currently only available in its South East & South West London cafes; so an additional away day treat for our upcoming trips to Millwall and QPR respectively!

Locations: https://www.icecreamunion.com/#contact

Full range, including their important 'Fior di Latte' Taggy's equivalent (bottom of page two): https://www.icecreamunion.com/docs/flavour-list-by-the-ice-cream-union.pdf

Enjoy!

My mum and dad both grew up on Heeley. Even though we lived miles away, after football on a Sunday morning we used to drive to Taggy's, join the massive queues and take home for after our Sunday dinner. Proper treat!!

That bring's back memories! Forgot Taggy's would fill up whatever you took to them with ice cream and price it! Cup, mug, basin, bowl, bucket! Try doing that anywhere today... "We only serve it in 100ml portions."

Plus their chocolate wafers and jam wafers were exceptional too in their ice cream sandwiches!

Were in the process of trying to do that at the moment. We produce it in small batches scaling up is the difficult and expensive part
There's plenty of Sheffielders of a certain generation who'd crowdfund to get that great ice cream back?!?

Get the small batches on sale at The Lane and take it from there!

Grew up eating Taggys. Always pulled up right outside our house on Myrtle Rd.
1st house we lived in after I was married was across from Taggys shop on View Rd.
As said earlier, their chocolate and jam wafers were a thing wonder.
Im salivating now at the thought of a Taggys chocolate sandwich 😅
Their raspberry was summat else as well!

There’s two or three really fab ice cream makers on the outskirts of Buxton. Some dairy farmers have branched out because they can’t sell all their wonderful raw milk…and, I must say, the ice cream is lovely stuff.

Taggy’s was part of my Saturday as a kid,up early Saturday morning with excitement for the match, watch swap shop then run up to my nan and grandads on south view road, bacon sandwich then taggy’s ice cream tub whilst watching grandstand, then grandad and I would walk to the match to stand on the bramall lane end and watch T.C. And Woody…if only you could turn back the clock for just one more day like this.

It was that butter milk base that apparently was the difference!?!

Halcyon days!

I think the reason that the recipe wasn't made public is because there was something illegal in there.
An ingredient that got you addicted. An ingredient that made you stand in the piss down rain clutching a Pyrex dish that you wanted filling. An ingredient that made Dads stop saying "There's choc-ices int freezer" and join you in the queue.
Taggys was amazing🤤

Great memories, going to my nan’s on Ann’s Road on a Sunday and walking down to Taggy’s with the Pyrex bowl for Sunday lunch afters! If only we could experience the greatest ice cream just one more time 🙏🏼

Taggy's was great ice cream and a regular fixture on Alderson Place where I grew up. I remember the Taggy's driver squaring up to Joe's Ices driver when they both arrived at the same time!
