Would it make sense to start splitting the Bramall Lane End between home and away fans, allowing home fans half the BL End and the Westfield Health Corner, meaning they're a lot closer to the away fans, creating a better atmosphere. I would guess the area would be mainly used for under 24's or just people that like to make a bit of atmosphere seen as it has been dire at the Lane for a while. You see it at other teams games and often on our away games, the closer opposition fans are the better the atmosphere. I'm unsure as to how easy it would be to do but surely it would be simple to net the Bramall Lane End in half (both tiers) and charge £15 for the upper tier per game and £10 for the lower tier (seen as it is a worse view). Also there would be unreserved seating meaning it'd be possible for groups of fans that start songs off to stand together. Its just an idea..thoughts?

Depends if you mean 'create a better atmosphere' or 'create a haven for the old G and H Block dickheads'.

There's nowt like singing and chanting down opposition fans. It's brilliant fun and part of the whole footballing fans scene. Then there's the wankers who chuck coins, spout racist and poor taste chants and are literally feet away from people they will fight. I'd like to think that we are moving away from that 70s shit at the speed of light and we leave the barbaric stuff to people who are stuck in the 70s, like most of the old Eastern Bloc seems to be.

A key part of getting a good atmosphere from the home fans is to get a good atmosphere from the away fans. The worst way to do that is to split them into two groups.

I was sat in the upper tier on Saturday surrounded by thousands of students who in the main got behind the Blades. It was like the United Nations. I reckon it was just a jolly for them but if only a percentage get hooked then it was good business by the Blades. There are large numbers living in our part of town and it would be good to tap into them. Seeing 4 goals didn't hurt either

If you want a better atmosphere I'd suggest starting by fucking the John St family stand off and returning it to the general public. Open the upper Bramall Lane stand and herd all the families in there, the ones in Westfield Corner included. Its OK turning football into a family game, but kids do fuck all for the atmopshere. Most of the little twats aren't interested in the game anyway. They sit playing angy birds or summat on their phones or take delight in kicking the back of my seat while dad does the mouth breather act and does jack shit. One little barsted on the Kop against Crawley the other week was laid across four seats, no interest in the game whatsoever, rattling the last one with his feet, till he got the death stare. That way, three sides of the ground would be back to creating an atmosphere like we used to get, and the happy families could all sit together in one big creche.

Standing on the Kop would sort it.
You would have the atmosphere back then - I wouldn't be bothered about the seating in the other sides of the ground.

Bring back standing - The Taylor Report was flawed as SYP corrupted the data

I'm sure God wouldn't speak with language like that.

The irony of a post talking about racism ending like this isn't lost is it? ;)

How is this 'racist'?

Pointing out that there is a demonstrable propensity for racism, neo-Nazism and football gangsterism in the former Eastern Bloc countries at their football matches isn't racism is it?

If you want, I can link you to numerous internet-sourced films and websites that illustrate this. As I remember, monkey chants used to be de rigeur at most matches in the UK in the 1970s and I recall asking my friend why the crowd at Bramall Lane were booing Viv Anderson when someone looked over and offered, "It's 'cos he's a fucking n****r!" I imagine Yaya Toure feels the same indignation and sadness that VA used to do (and people like Brendon Batson, Clive Best and Cyrille Regis as well, only in a completely different country.

I'm glad we make real efforts to get rid of that shit and don't accept it as part of the backcloth.

well said ,i have a little twat that sits behind me,who spends the whole match playing a stupid game on his dads phone, to keep the little darling occupied for 90 minutes and i could swear its like sitting in front of that fucking annoying crazy frog from a couple of years ago,and his loon of a dad seems to be totally oblivious:mad:

Sitting with, and around like minded individuals is important at any event football or otherwise........

That's why I never go out with the missus anymore.

Yes the biggest problem facing football right now if families at games. Does anyone really think that because kids and parents go (and they always have by the way) that the atmosphere at the games has died? If you do then you truly are one of the last dinosaurs thrashing about in the swamp. What next, stop women going because all they do is screech and shriek?

Atmosphere dying is tied in with a whole host of things. Football fans have changed, grounds have changed and society is less accepting of the things that made football such a hostile place to be in the 70's and 80's. Perhaps we should have a caged area where knobheads can shout and swear and generally behave like wankers for 90 minutes. Throw some free bananas in and some song sheets about people from Middlesboro shagging their own kids and bingo back comes your atmosphere.

I'm afraid one of the things that made football so appealing when I was younger was that raw crackling atmosphere, where someone might get lamped any minute. Where a spitting seething mass of testosterone jumped around and was generally obnoxious. I liked it, but I also realise that some pretty nasty things happened at the same time.

The first time I heard (I was wearing hearing aids then) monkey chants was when I was stood with my dad in the BLLT in our home Anglo-Scottish (or was it Texaco Cup?) match against Notts County in August 1977. Notts County had two black players (Tristan Benjamin and the late Pedro Richards) and I asked my dad what the chants were every time these two players were near the ball and he explained to me that they were monkey chants

Could very well be my son who sometimes comes to the matches with me and often plays angry birds or scoffs crisps in between his interest in the game. He doesn't go regularly, just if he’s been a good lad, as a treat.

Should I discourage his enthusiasm for football and more importantly SUFC because he has the attention span of, well, a 4 year old child?

We sit on the south stand, gangway D, row DD, Seat 75. Do say hello if it is us that are ruining your match days and you can call him a twat to his face….

When people say things like "nothing ever changes" and "you can't change human nature", it always occurs to me that when I first started going to watch United regularly in the 80's virtually the whole ground would make monkey noises whenever an opposition black player got the ball and no-one did a thing about it. Do that now and you will be facing a lifetime ban and a criminal conviction.

Indeed, Fun wasn't it?

However, much as it made for many an exciting (and bloody) away trip, those days are long gone and good riddance. People ended up dying as a result of years of letting it fester and if a "lack of atmosphere" is the price we pay for being, relatively, safe and secure at nearly all football grounds then it's a small price indeed.

Kids, women, people with flasks of soup, old people, you name it, it's their game too.

For what it's worth I actually put "lack of atmosphere" down to the game on the field being between a bunch of ponces these days as opposed to the seating arrangements of the crowd.

Int it fucking annoying though? You pay good money only to have to put up with that getting on your nerves all match. Its torture enough watching that load of puddins trying to perform on the pitch!

Just wait till we get good enough to have a substantial amount of balloons again. By that time though you may have grown out of swearing:D

It makes me chuckle when I read some of these posts
For a start putting both sets of supporters side by side no way segregation has to stay .
Take the women and kids out of the crowd and you would be down to about 8k mind you the way things have been this year it would be a punishment and not a treat for the kids.
And for racism there is none at English grounds anymore it's history on Saturday two thirds of Crewes side was black.
The Eastern Europeans are mimicking what we were doing 30-40 years ago and like over here it will fade away eventually

Make the Upper Tier of the Bramall Lane stand available to away supporters. Frinstance, Port Vale's extended family of fans were herded into the bottom with its crap view, while the stand above them with a view to compare with the grandeur of a frozen Niagara Falls lay empty.

I think we should show some hospitality to away supporters.

Hooliganism is dead as well while we are blowing smoke up everyones arse.

The only football hooligans ive ever seen are fat middle aged men wearing chavvy clothes being followed around by skinny spotty teenagers

My lad isn't spotty ysb.
