Just looking at the recent January transfer signings and I see Coventry have signed Stephen Hunt, who was unattached apparently. Plus with the signing of Joe Cole have been busy and it makes me wonder if we'll sign anybody in January. With Mr Adkins coming out and stating we need to trim the first team squad then I sincerely doubt it. I'm not for one second saying we should have tried to sign either player (to be honest, I'd forgot that Hunt was still playing) and its defenders we need anyway but I guess my point is our competition is strengthening there squads where once again we are left behind to fend for ourselves with what we have.

Never mind them two, he also signed Peter Ramage, who is quite decent at Centre half.

Cole and Hunt are on their way down. Short term Higdonism gambles are ok but we"ve been there too many times with only short term (no) benefits - Peters, Rush Beattie st am.
Trim the squad & get the rest to "want it" rather than thinking they've "made it already" & maybe we can get promoted.

I think I put in the original thread that I WASNT suggesting that we should have tried to sign either of the two players I mentioned. My point was once our squad has been trimmed, will we bring in any quality defenders (preferably a CB) to help us push on this season and get out of this awful division because I don't believe it is strong enough as it stands.

The Sheffield Star is reporting that Sheffield United may try a third bid for Fulham's Dan Burn following Slavisa Jokanovic’s recent appointment.

Nigel Adkins has tried twice before to sign the defender, but the change of manager could see the Blades trying their luck once again as the Cottagers also look to relieve the pressure under their transfer embargo
