Sunderland Want Tufty

What's interesting is that many Sunderland fans have never even heard of Chris Wilder.

Some are asking if it's a joke suggestion?
Others ask if he's related to Gene Wilder
And one said he'd rather have Van Wilder managing Sunderland.

One said he's read CW's cv and it's impressive but only in the lower leagues.
However they say that they've tried to get tried and tested managers with good cvs and it's failed
So at least getting someone with no experience from the lower leagues is worth a try because everything else has failed, last act of desperation.

Many don't expect Wilder to join Sunderland.
Said he'd be mad to leave his boyhood club for a car crash of a club such as Sunderland.

Still no offer of a new contract for CW. Worst move of the transfer window.

Still no offer of a new contract for CW. Worst move of the transfer window.

It's not simply about a quick pay rise in a new contract.

Imagine if United double his contract, then Sunderland will double it again.
So imagine if United triple his contract, then Sunderland will double that too etc etc.
What if we quadruple his pay?...........yes, you've guessed it Sunderland will double that too.

Exactly so it puts them off. The longer contract he has the more money he is on the more money we will get for him.

If CW wants to leave we have to make it difficult for him. We have to make the wages he's going to go too not as drastic. We need to say CW we have a 3 year deal signed last week. Your not going.

It will make teams step away from him and think he is unattainable.

New signings hearing the manager may leave doesn't create stability.

We can't be complacent with this and need to get it sorted.

Relying on his loyalty keeping him here when he knows he could get much more money elsewhere would be a slap in the face.

The contract length is as important as anything - it will increase the compensation clubs would need to pay us.

You do all realise that there isn't a fucking prayer of him leaving don't you?

It'll happen quite a bit in future. Clubs will "want" Wilder because he's been successful. They can "want" all they like, there isn't a single good reason for him to leave, especially for a club in the same division as the one he has a personal involvement with.

The other important issue to consider is

The Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes was offered a triple wage rise.
Aberdeen don't even have proper training facilities where as Sunderland have a state of art training facility. But......he STILL refused the offer to manage Sunderland...... Why?

Apparently Sunderland are soon to be taken over by new owners.
So it makes you wonder if who ever takes the job would quickly become "dead man walking".
Usually new owners want to make their own appointment.

So Wilder going to Sunderland would just be a short term "get rich quick" venture with no foundation or career progression. This job represents everything Wilder is against.

Also as I keep saying giving Wilder a long lucrative contract won't put off any PL club.
Sunderland have just acquired 30 million for their goalie and are still protected by the PL millions.

If we triple Wilders contract and extend it 5 years.
Sunderland will just laugh at it and easily pay it off. No way would it deter them.

Sunderland are a car crash waiting to happen. Someone commenting on the Guardian somewhere said they wanted to see them get the best fee possible for the keeper they've just flogged to Everton, because watching them spend the money they get would be very funny. It'll get pissed up the wall quicker than Oliver Reed's pay packet. Wilder to Sunderland is as likely to happen as Rooney to Real Madrid.

What would Wilder say in this situation if it was a player? He'd say "I'm not going to hold a gun to his head". If Wilder wants to go he will, whatever the contract. He won't though. End of IMO.

Hmmm, if we'd seen evidence Tufty has a decent budget to work with I'd say this was unlikely but how much have we spent so far to consolidate our position in the championship, not a lot. Who knows what is going on behind the scenes. Overly tight budgets have caused a few managers in football to reluctantly move on to richer pickings in the past. If we see a couple of decent quality signings and first team starters I'll believe a decent budget is there but until then I'll respect the words of others and be patient.

Like Ferguson once said: choose your chairman not club. From how Ellis Short has run that club over recent years, anyone going there needs their head examined.

This is the same guy who appointed Gus Poyet, Paula Di Canio and David Moyes - not to mention employing Margaret Byrne to run the club.... He hasn't got a clue.

They've announced they're in takeover talks. No manager will be going there until it's resolved.

Car crash has already happened at Sunderland. Awful leadership from the top and in the midst of a takeover. Not to mention it needs a season to turnover the shite squad they're lumbered with.

Wilder is an astute man, he won't make short term decisions that would jeopardise his career whilst it is still blossoming.

That said, the success he has brought coupled with his commitment to running Sheff Utd in a prudent manner needs protecting.

If a year or two top up + pay rise on his existing deal would eliminate even the slightest chance of him moving on we would be short minded not to do it...

Fucking daft panic everywhere I look. Sunderland are in big trouble, owner wants out but has £100m of debt hanging over the club, they are not in any sort of position to appoint an ambitious manager such as CW. If they were pointing forward and offered Chris a war chest of £50m, £40k a week wage and a go on Kim Kardashian I still wouldn't be worried.

I expect them to follow the trend and employ a manger from either Germany,Portugal,Spain or Italy someone who has managed between 3-10 teams in 10 years of management they wear a suit, one of their many teams punched above their weight in one particular season and qualified for Europa league before getting knocked out to a team from Czech Republic this feat somehow got them a job at a club usually between 5th-3rd biggest club in their respective countries before getting sacked after less than one season..and the next job is a bottom half Premier league team or top
Half Championship team obviously!!

Oh and you've never heard of them either,If I sound annoyed I'm actually not much prefer these names turning up makes a refreshing change to every British manager that gets linked with every job every season despite being bobbar.

Oooh that felt good. Also imagine this Wilder taking any job where he was my first choice...don't see it

do I want CW to stay - yes
do I think he will - probably

but, for all you viewing this through red & white tinted glasses think on....
CW played in an era before the big money, he has to work for a living - he does well he enhances an already good reputation with a tick in the box of been able to work with big players/big budgets.
if he fails he is made for life, as are his kids & probably their kids. He can get another job citing it was an impossible job/board room chaos etc.
is he a blade - of course. But he is at an infant stage of his career, as was Kyle Walker, not worked out bad for that lad has it...

Lift up Ecclesall Road and transplant it into a Sunderland theme park, with all his family and mates and his love for
The Blades would still make him say no.

He's on a journey..

HA nice one mate, I agree completely!!

If they are being turned down as being inferior to staying at Aberdeen or Preston I don' t think there is anything for us to worry about.

He only leaves us for the England job in 5 years time - but Lofty Knill takes over so we keep continuity, like Liverpool of old.

UTB

Simon Grayson rules out move to Sunderland .........getting a tad nervous about all this..

Wilder will be off its the Blades way

If Wilder walks out on us for Sunderland what will your honest reaction be ?

If he wasn't a blade I'd be worried. He's moved up the league as his reputation has grown, he left oxford and Northampton to better himself so I wouldn't be shocked. The fact he's a blade though will go a long way in his thought process I'd imagine (fingers crossed)
