OK. This is a mad one. But, you know, I'm just trying to be encouraging & helpful. This is a preposterously early heads up for...

Peterborough United U18 v Sheffield United U18
Saturday 29 January at 11am (at Peterborough's Training Ground)

The point being, that is a Peterborough Double Header. v the U18s in the morning & v the First Team in the early evening, with a nice bit of drinking time in between, in what is an excellent beer town. Not unprecedented, but a very rare coincidence of fixtures. Which has had the Carrier Bag Firm salivating for months. If we know, you should know.
In case anyone can build it into their schedule...

With the early part of this week's Academy fixtures complete, a reminder about the U18/First Team Double Header away at Peterborough this Saturday. As the U18s look to stay ahead of Peterborough and move closer to Sheffield Wednesday & the top two.

Didn’t you share another league table where Coventry were top or is this the same one? Do they have a very strong youth set up?

Coventry City are currently top of BOTH the U18 & U23 Professional Development League North Groups. Remember that is effectively Division Three of Academy football. At U23 level this season, we beat them at home, but they beat us when we went to them. At U18 level, we drew at their place. Over recent years, there has been a lot of movement upwards & out of PDL, with teams gaining Cat 1 status. And there has been just a little bit of movement upwards & into PDL. Coventry always end up being the team switching between North & South to try & even the numbers. Academy performance can come in cycles. Good recruitment at 15 leads to a strong U18 team a few years down the line & a strong U23s a few years further on. And, not all Academy performance is about winning games & points in the table. Player development & progression is another aspect of performance.

In my experience, a lot of fans don't pay that much attention to the league table. Unless their team is winning it. For eg, I think it would surprise people to learn that Sheffield Wednesday have been National U23 PDL Champions. A feat United have never achieved.

Coventry have certainly been standout this season. I was very impressed with their U23s when we went there.

Final Call ... for anyone who can get to Peterborough for 11am in the morning

In case you didn't hear, and quite frankly if so where you been, the Carrier Bag Firm enjoyed an UNPRECEDENTED Double Header on Saturday. With the U18s at Peterborough's Training Ground in the morning (Ground Tick 228 vs a Sheffield United XI) & the First Team Big Lads up the road in the late afts. So, to recap...
Two stands I couldn't sit in
The Poles have turned up
Del turns himself into a training aid
Rhian's injury is my fault as I choose completely the wrong beer
Landlord seemed more interested in Charity than selling Ale
And ... have you met The Blades new Brazilian fans.
Have a read...

And, you may like to catch up with other recent Bloginess here...

Good read on your blog and I'm following our younger lad's exploits when streaming or not. May have to head out to an U23 home game plus ale session pre match.
