A bit disappointing, but according to one of our loyal sufc staff members only one season ticket sold since Blackwell got the sack. Thought there would be queue's outside the ticket office after he went.

Nah, too much fun to be had on here moaning about stuff. And it takes a few good results to get people thinking they are missing out.

after watching that debacle at the weekend people were hardly going to run down to the ticket office and part with 400 quid where they??! A decent performance on Saturday might get people back. If we show some signs of improvement, passing and look more threatening then maybe the number of season tickets will increase.

Why?

Full price season ticket with one game already gone, a discount game coming up, the option of buying a Flexi ticket for £110 and the half season ticket on sale at Christmas.

Should have sacked him whilst the full discount was on but I think (unless we are absolutely shite from now until December) the sales will be OK come Chrimbo.

That is a shame really, as there were many, even on this board alone, if memory serves me correct, that said they will get one when and only when Blackie has left the building.

and I am one such. As I said on another thread though:

Season Ticket money spent
Someone now has "my" seat
I am missing three games prior to Christmas
The flexi ticket will take care of all other games prior to the "half season ticket" being available
I WILL be buying a half season ticket when they appear

Simples

Got to agree with that - bought mine out of habit not excitement this summer. If I hadn't then I think I'd have been praying for Blackwell's sacking, but logistically waiting until Christmas to get a season ticket once he'd gone. I just hope the flexi tickets and tickets on the day increase and the atmosphere perks up, along with the football.

It's a lot easier to lose season ticket holders than get them back.

I'm amazed at the naivety on here and at the club - both in the summer when people seemed to think sales would only be a couple of thousand down, to those that think if we are top six that thousands of ex season ticket holders flock back and pay on the day every match, to those that now think appointing Speed will get people buying season tickets.

It doesn't work like that. United failed to pull their finger out when it mattered - despite the glaringly obvious disenchantment among many long standing fans - and now the horse has bolted.

They really need to come up with some major price incentives, some decent siginings and something consistently resembling football on the pitch if they are to make any serious inroads into getting the fans back - and stopping further falls in sales next season.

They took the fans for granted once too often and are paying the price. It's not too late to turn some of it round but they need to do it quickly and and with a bit more imagination.

That, my man , is a very, very good post.

Great stuff, as usual.

A colleague of mine had a season ticket for years, loved it and travelled all over in the 1990's until kids cut down his away games a bit. Couldn't face another year of watching us and now barely talks about SUFC and is very unlikley to go again by my reckoning. It will take more than the sacking of Blackwell to get him back. Most of us will have a similar story yet we were told on here that there is no problem, ticket sales are good and stop assuming we have lost thousands of longstanding supporters.

We were told on here that the summer had gone well and that improvements have been made in all areas.

A good plan would have been sacking Blackwell in May and extending the cheap ticket deadline to the start of the season or even the end of the transfer window - on the assumption that we get some pace and flair in.

Just goes to show what a load of bollox the sunshine gang speak :p

Not really and I think the question you should be asking is how many were going back after the QPR game if Blackwell had been there. I was certainly not going.

What's your season ticket looking like? not got one have you....

Absolutely spot on. I didn't renew for reasons I've explained in another thread. I'm not made of money and I've used the season ticket money elsewhere. As you say it is very, very easy to lose season ticket holders and a long, long slog to get them back. They've made great inroads in getting people back to the Lane over the past few years but it is now going to take quite some time to get everyone back and introduce new supporters to the Lane. Unfortunately not going to the Lane any more can become a habit just as it is for those that go. Why on earth the board thought that everyone would renew given the circumstances at the end of last season just shows that they took season ticket holders for granted. Arguably the decline set in even before the playoff final.

I see the mass return if we got rid of Blackwell is going well

Either that or they were talking complete rubbish. I know which one the evidence seems to be pointing to right now. Realistically for all their bluster they never had any intention of getting a ticket, but it sounded good at the time.

It seems to be a case of promising to get season tickets when Blackwell went, but fervently praying that he didn't as the money had been spent and they didn't want to look foolish. That worked a treat then......

If you can afford it, are within reasonable travelling distance and are in good health you should turn up and support the Blades. That's was being a fan means. Staying away because of the manager, the style of play, the results etc is boll@cks.

Having said that, whilst down on recent seasons, today's crowd was still better than most of our rivals can manage.

Which really points to the fact that the real reason for the lower attendances wasn't anything to do with Blackwell and more to do with the general state of the economy across the country as a whole.
