Getting a bit worried now about the lack of quality in the squad and the players DW has brought in or is looking to bring in. I went to the New York Stadium the other night and although you can not read to much into performances and results you can see player qualities or lack of for example Cofie looked good wasn't a world beater for 90 mins but showed signs, Miller for me although he didn't get much time looked very average at best. So i wonder if DW is simply filling the squad and hoping for the best because this latest lad we are reportedly looking at from Blackburn has a similar unproven record. We need players to score goals and from the players we have lost ie williamson and evans we have replaced them with very average players or current players who were on the fringe last season.

I'd have to say i am not impressed with the likes of Hill, Williams, flynn, miller, porter, who look like being a regular part of our so called promotion chasing side instead of getting the likes of miller, porter and maybe blackman in my not combine the wage on a proven goal scorer like we had last season, we would then still have Cofie and cresswell.

Never read too much into pre-season. It gives no indication of how any team is going to perform from the start of the season. It is purely about the manager trying things out and players gaining fitness. Its unfair to judge anyone before they've actually played a run of competitive games....we've made a lot of changes and people are settling in.

We'll be fine, its not the best league and imo we're one striker from being title contenders.

Signing players on the way up is something we haven't done too often the last few years. Miller, Blackman, McAllister and Tønne are inexpensive signings and hopefully a couple of them will become valuable first team squad members. They need to be trusted and allowed to develop though.

Hill and Williams don't belong into the same category. Porter is ok for me (if we want to use his aerial ability) while I don't think Flynn will be quite good enough to win a regular spot.

Hill, Williams, flynn, miller, porter were all part of a very good team last season. We just ran out of goals. Until LJF is fit I would only consider Hill for a 1st team starter.

I believe we still need another striker, sounds like Blackman and a winger (quick one) maybe 2 if Quinn leaves

Are you forgetting that Collins, McMahon, Doyle, McDonald, Quinn, Cresswell all didn't start on Tuesday and they will all be in the starting 11, whatever my thoughts about the last one

How can you judge Miller on less than 45 mins in a team with players he has never played with before.
FFS its a pre seaon friendly get a grip
I remember seeing Deano in a pre season friendly at Doncaster just after we had signed him he looked very average

We don't half like a good moan don't we? So far this pre-season we've had:

- Why haven't we signed anyone? We're behind all the other League 1 clubs re: recruitment?
- Why haven't we offered Willo/K-Mac better terms?
- Why haven't we given Willo/K-Mac an ultimatum? Why are we letting them still train with us?
- Why are we selling Lowton?
- Why aren't we selling Monty?
- Why hasn't Cofie signed yet?
- Why have we renewed Porter's contract?
- Why isn't the new kit better?

And so on. I can't wait till the new season starts, when I get to hear the moaning directly for 90 mins from someone I'll inevitably end up sitting in front of on the Kop...

I remember seeing Bill Dearden on his debut in a county cup game I think it was. He looked rubbish, slow and zero ball control. Players need time to settle in before you can judge them. And don't forget Ched's goalscoring record left a lot to be desired before last season.

Even McDonald took a while before he started to play well. Collins and Doyle looked poor in their first season here. A lot of people said Maguire 'needed a rest' before it became obvious that he only played better and better as the season went on. I bet we are going to be positively surprised by someone this season too.

i wasn't picking on the performance i was simply asking the question on DW's signings i remember last season many people on here actually asked the same question. I just think that the signings seem like squad fillers.

Its a squad game now and whist you're entitled to ask the questions it is worth taking into account where our club currently sits in the football pyramid. Even if you have money at this level it is very, very hard to attract a proven calibre of player because the ones above generally dont want to step down and the ones doing well in the third usually want to step up.

Most clubs (even the big ones) get out of this league by finding unearthed gems, polishing them up and making a team out of them. If you're trying to build a promotion winning team on a limited budget in a crap league you have to be creative in the market. We've gone for young players who have shown signs of talent but have plenty to prove. That is what I would class as creative.

DW may just be able to build a team that is greater than the sum of its parts.
