Horrible to see but having watched a couple of the Germans matches it looks like they have been told to cut it out. Not seen anyone gobbing up to now.
To be honest you don't see it in other sports like rugby and tennis so why do they think they can do it?

Give every player a packet of Kleenex before they go out on the pitch, and little bins down the sidelines to discard them.

You disagree with what?

That it's only footballers. Rugby players spit too. I've seen tennis players do it also. The big difference with Tennis to Football/Rugby is that with football it's constant, almost like running a marathon. A build up of thick saliva occurs through most strenuous sports, but in Tennis there are breaks all the time, they change ends and have a drink and a bite to eat, it's not quite as easy to rinse your mouth in football.

It's no coincidence that when players are down injured, the other players all go straight for the drinks. It's a refresh and also a chance to clear their throat.

We've become a staid society with all this spitting. Why not just swallow?

Hopefully one positive from all this will be the long-overdue elimination of spitting from the game. This will hopefully allow attention to switch to the other inexcusable thing in football: laces coming undone mid-match.

Gob Of The Month Competition (starts @27 seconds)
Gob C is Paul Mariner and Gob D is Eric Gates (both Ipswich Town), but who are the Watford Gobbers A & B?
One for our resident expert Silent Blade?

A jogger was spitting near me whilst out walking this weekend, I gave my best 'tut' to them.

Just been confirmed by cultural secretary on BBC News all players will carry "poo bags" (ones dog walkers use) tucked in there shorts and if they feel like spitting must spit into the bag. These are then to be burnt at the end apart from the players who continually spit and fill them up then these can be used to water the grass at the end to help the environment.

So spitting is banned, is the nose blow still allowed ?

I run daily and never felt the need to spit unless I got a fly in the mouth.

I did do a lot of this, The Farmer's Blow is another name for it but I have a permanently running nose and always discreetly fire it to somewhere nobody else has to see it. Currently I'm wiping most of it on my shirt.

I run, i am a bit of a gozzer... I do pick my moments though!! NEVER on a footpath, I go for the road, grass or try and get it in the drain

but if I’m at the gym on a machine or doing a Fit class I forget all about it

Red card for spitting ! What’s next? what’s the world coming to.
run like fuck for hours then what ? Hold your spit in cos the government say so 😂

I always had to spit in the days when I regularly went running, if I didnt I started to feel really sick. If you watch players today, they also spit back out most of their drinks too. God knows how they will get around this.

They could remind the players that it’s a drink, not Listerine.
