Evening all, new to the forum however read for a while and posted on bladesmad for ages but doesn't seem to work at the moment!

Not sure how you all felt about boxing days performance but I thought once again the first half was one of the worst performances iv seen this season, bar the Stevenage game. Its the simple things we seem to be doing wrong. Ill start from the back...

Long- his kicking is dire, the three times he kicked it straight out of play were diabolical. Take a touch and play it down the middle of the park. He should have caught a few easy crosses as well. Was dissapointed with him yesterday.

Defence- hated how we constantly passed it backwards back and forth going no where. I understand there is patient play however sometimes it was unnecessary. I also thought the defence saw passes and then waited and waited and waited and then played the pass after it was gone.

Midfield- non existand in the first half. Once again the pass was on so often however players just waited and waited and waited before making the pass. A quicker pass could have cut through Oldham so easily and got us onto the attack much quicker.

Forwards- porter is gash, sorry but he is. Miller still looks a yard behind the pace. I hate it how long it takes our players to get into the box and gamble.

I'm not asking for sublime football, however I just want some basic quick passing and some correct decision making from players. Its so infuriating when your watching and basic mistakes are being made in no pressure situations. It came from our faults where Oldham scored and had all the chances.

Rant over, onto the next game, and three more points hopefully!

Dave,

Brilliantly summed up though I would say that there have been performances this season easily on a par with yesterday. Without Brandy in the team we are incapable of any swift attacks, like you say whilst Harry and Collins are busy fannying about passing backwards and forwards to each other, the opposition mark up, get out the deckchairs and light the cigars.

Sorry think I posted this in the wrong place earlier.

Can't find a word of that I disagree with, should be posted to every board member and player at the club

Glad some people agree with me. As I said, all I want is the basics done right! Get the basics right then you can work from there!

I agree with you but the thing that pees me off it that at Stevenage we pretty much did get it all right from the front to the back. For the most the basics were all spot on and none of what you say which is true about the Oldham game I can't deny it but I also can't grasp why because as I said the this game was completely different to the last game........very much a tale of two games.

I think we are coming a long way in getting the basics right however in order to consistently achieve it I do think we need that bit of added quality in certain areas of the pitch. The first half yesterday was a freak backstep which I would rather forget and I am comfortable enough after watching us grow over the last few weeks to think that we can write it off as a back day at the office which all teams have.

January will definitely be telling in how consistent we will be between then and the end of the season that is for sure.

Good post anyway dave, agree with the overall analysis of yesterdays game.

The biggest disappointment to me was the midfield. They played well in the previous game, should have been full of confidence, should have pushed on when we had the game by the scruff after we equalised. Instead they did nothing. In fact they backed off.

I can't fathom why this happened - they simply failed to get anywhere near the strikers, so the team exerted no pressure and Oldham got back in the game. The chance to win the game was there and missed.

Perhaps they're not fit enough? Perhaps the onus on tightening the defence has affected their mindset? Perhaps they're just plain poor. What I do know is that Oldham were admirable as a unit, but they were there to be taken in the second half and we didn't.
