Today was simply a reminder of the fact that our squad still requires major surgery. Time for our owners to show us the colour of their money following promises of "game changing" investment. If it's not there fine I'm not going to bang on about it and Paynter on loan is a decent signing to me....but we need so much more. I'll call it straight:-

- Need new full backs.....they're too slow and too inconsistent.
- Need an additional centre back for competition.
- Need a consistent wide man that can work himself into crossing positions and with decent delivery.
- Need a goal scorer. 15-20 a season man would be fine.

This is the minimum requirement.

It sounded like Hill had a mare today and was taken off.
McMahon was booked for diving....in their penalty area.

Not the the first, nor the last, that a team as gone on to win the FA Cup, and then got relegated.
Cheer up ffs, it's one result. It may be a bad one but I honestly believe we are safe under clough, it just might take a while to achieve.

We have a good manager but we are most certainly not safe with some of these players. Those are famous last words.....DO NOT allow yourself to get into a false sense of security. We have just lost two league games on the bounce and that can breed a dip on confidence. I will be worried until we start to pull away.

As I've just said in another thread above about today, we need major surgery in a few positions, I think both full backs are simply not good enough and McMahon is a liability always bobbing off and getting booked.

I don't like this talk however on whether we have game changing cash, of course we've got investment, do you honestly think high profile investors would completely lie to us, to the club, to McCabe, to the media, thats utter bollox.

The problem as I see it is getting the deadwood and excess players out, and thats not easy but at least Clough has got rid of Williams and King, he salsa loaned out youngsters, and also loaned out Taylor to get match fitness and get his touch back and thats working.

But when he tries to sign quality players and they opt for table topping Brentford rather than us it shows what hard work it is, we may be a big club with great history in the distant past but we aren't a good team at this point in time.

My view is that Clough will get us to mid table, then really stamp his authority on the team this summer, and I'm prepared to wait for that.

Sobering result? Strange because I am going to get hideously drunk to try to forget it.

That's when you show people the colour of your money and make an offer that gets players to ignore "table topping Brentford."

Players will go where the money is and anyone that argues it's about FFP.....how are the likes of Brentford and one or two other sides getting around it? Short of a rich investor finding a loophole there's no way clubs like that generate more income than us. Not a chance.

so am I Zablade, mind you my worse nightmare has happened in that my best mate in Donny is a pig fan and he's supposed to be on nights but he's took it off after their lucky win today, he didn't actually go to game though but he will be waiting for me with a stupid grin on his face.

Well said. I'm not sure about Cloughy doing a Latin-American dance whilst conducting transfers, though.
:)

Au contraire Pat owd mucker. This is a result that makes me want to get shit faced, rather than sobering me!?

Well said, Patrick.

Don't forget, if it wasn't for the cup game last week, we were due to be at home to Brentford, so that would be three defeats on the spin.

What really pisses me off is teams like Huddersfield (just bought Nahki Wells for a club record transfer. We loan old players from Donnie) and Brentford make us look small-time.

Terriers boss Mark Robins said: "At just 23 he ( Wells) has huge potential, which he has proven at Bradford in the last two seasons. He fits into our ethos of buying young, hungry players who have experience and that we can develop." Also, they've given him a four-and-a-half year contract.

Can you imagine us saying/doing something like that?

Have Huddersfield or Brentford had parachute payments from the PL in recent years? No. Have they sold over £20m of talent in the last 4 years? No. Have they got richer backers than The Prince? No. Have they received £21m from the Tevez case? No. Are their crowds half of those we get? Yes.

WE HAVE GAME-CHANGING MONEY!

Do we? Do we really? Or do we have yet more smoke and mirrors to take the heat off McCabe for a year?

Blades summed up in one brilliant post.

We all need to stay calm because the ride to 51 points will be like this week in, week out.

I think Brentfords benefactor put cash in through sponsorship deals in the summer - boosting income for the season and spending power when FFP levels were set.

It's a good idea. Makes a mockery of FFP but if they can do it good on em.

Leaves one asking why we haven't done that.....as if we need to
