I think the Taylor signing will be about the last of the 'IN' deals this summer apart from maybe one or two loans to plug the gaps.

So who are we going to get shut of next?

Doyle? Williams? Porter?

Whos next out of the door?

Doyle won't go. Like it or not, he's the captain. Can't see Porter leaving either, with one in and one out up front, we're still a bit light up front. Williams? Maybe, but who will take him?

Our new assistant manager was a top class defensive midfielder who should be ideal when it comes to assessing Doyle. Weir's appreciation for him also suggests he's got his views on what's required from that role. Captain or not, if Doyle doesn't perform he should be replaced.

I personally think we are just 1 player short, a holding midfielder for when Doyle has his spell of off games. the Lundstrum guy who was on loan at Donny from Everton last season did well,

We need another striker in my opinion. We have signed a kid who is untried at this level, i think he's a good signing but you can't bank on it, Porter and Ironside. Murphy is debateable cos he may be playing in the first team in a different position, so can't really count him. Can't count Miller, despite what others will say, cos we have no idea when or if he can even play. Doesn't have to be a permanent signing, but i think it would be better if it was. Then we two new strikers to compete and Porter too. Ironside has shown little for me, he shouldn't be anything more than a late sub option at best for now.

Think the midfield could be ok, hopefully McGinn will do ok and Weir can get Doyle and McDonald to perform and play in a style that works for us. I'd rather get in another striker and worry about the midfield if it's not working.

yes indeed, goals win games so I would like another striker aswell.

Whoever we receive an offer for

I think it will be George long our only real saleable player - 1m or more will be enough I fear

Slightly off topic but:

When we are attacking, our full backs are extremely one dimensional.
Whether that's been due to Wilsons tactics or not I don't know, but I feel Weir needs to sort this area out.

If he can't sort it then for me these full backs should be replaced

Winter says no bids and Taylor "self financing". No idea what that means unless Cresswell out covers Taylor in. No bids is good news, wonder what Winter will have to say in the column tomorrow ?

Not in column chat...but in answer to queries, Julian Winter says #sufc have had no bids for any player this summer. Taylor self financed.

I would imagine that Cresswell's departure freed up enough for the Taylor fee. Taylor's wages will be within the budget and given that the wage bill has had the burden of Kitson and Robson removed, there will have been more room for manoeuver.

I expect Long to have already been sold, given his 'rest' period during the friendlies... hope i'm wrong but i can't see us bringing in so many without more departures. not so upset by this as the new manager needs to build his own squad and we have to be realistic.

"Bringing in so many"?
Steady on, we've only signed three senior players and two prospects for the dreaded "Development Squad".

We've offloaded three of the highest earners Kitson, Robson and Creswell along with JFL, Coyne, Harriot and Chappell.
So the wage bill will have definitely been reduced already.

There's certainly no excuse to sell Long or Maguire if/when we receive an offer as they won't be among the higher earners and and I don't think their wages even count under the FFP rules.

Players out:
Kitson - big earner: £8k per week?
Robson - big earner: £8k per week?
Cresswell - big earner: £8k per week?
Harriot - low earner: less than £1k per week?
Coyne - low earner: £1.5k per week?
LJF - lowish earner: £2.5k per week?

Players in:
McGinty - sacked by Man U. Not going to be on huge wages: less than £1k per week.
Johns - development player. Low wages: less than £1k per week.
McGinn - spent the last 18 months out injured, around £4k per week?
Taylor - signed from Scotland, relatively young, £4k per week?
Brandy - signed from Walsall where the wage bill was among the lowest in the division last year. Maybe £5k per week at most.

We've removed, by my estimate, almost £30,000 per week off the wage bill since the end of last season. I would be surprised if the new signings have added more than half of that back on.

The FFP rules aren't an issue this season: it's the basic financial viability of the club. There's no point spending the maximum 60% of turnover on the wages if we're also spending 50% of turnover on operating expenses. Given the profiles of the players leaving (experienced, senior pros) and those arriving (young, something to prove, a bit of a gamble?) I would have thought that if anyone was to leave, it would be one of the senior players with little resale value and a relatively high salary - one of Higginbotham, Hill, McMahon, Doyle, Howard or Collins. The issue is going to be a lack of interest.

Harry is the only youngster who is now included under FFP rules.

You have to be 19 on September 1 and Harry is now 20.

Quite a few more would be included in 2014-15 ie George, Kennedy, McFadzean

I don't think George Long is injured. but whatever, he is certainly not match fit, and DW seems to think that Howard is first choice and playing Willis as number 2.

This would certainly back up the theory that Long is being 'made available for offers' and who amongst us would wish to deny Mr McCabe a new Bentley.

Rubbish. He has been given longer off due to going to the u20 tournament. That said if someone offers daft money for him then we would be daft not to take it.

Long will be the one to go i reckon, come on, time off for the u20 tournament? A rest from resting?
