So who would you sooner lose??.

My biggest concern would be losing Wilder as a result of Brooks being sold without his authority.

Won’t happen. Not these days.

At the moment, that 50% share of the club is going up in value at an alarming rate, and worth a damn sight more than any realistic fee we could get for the lad Brooks.
Get us to the premier league and it’s a win win....club value rockets, player value rockets. And that’s every player.

My opinion is that I can do without negative discussions everytime there is an international break.

Chris Wilder is on cloud 9 at the minute. Not only bringing Northampton to League One, but getting his beloved Sheffield United out of the very same league, after six years, at the first attempt. On top of that, he took the team to top spot around New Year and they never budged from the number one position. On top of that, the team was promoted with 100 points, Billy Sharp was the leading scorer in the English Leagues, he put together (with Alan Knill) one of the best midfield trio's in living memory (Coutts, Fleck, Duffy), resurrected the careers of Paul Coutts and Kieron Freeman (Freeman scoring in double figures for the first time in his career), had Basham playing like his life depended on it, and helped create a cult hero in Jack O'Connell.

We have "landed" (to use his own words) in the championship, and every team has sat up and taken notice. One quarter of the season in, and we sit in third spot, and but for a few uncommon silly mistakes at the weekend, would have been second and homing in on first place.

He is exactly where he wants to be in life, and not everyone can say that.

He has a very strong chance of us securing a top six spot (if we can carry on like this), an achievement beyond anything any manager should realistically hope for during a first season in the Championship.

I just don't see anything tempting him yet. He is (and hopefully will be at the end of the season) incredibly, within touching distance of the Premiership.

I also don't think players want to leave him, I think he is that sort of manager that has lads playing out of their skin, hence when the final whistle went on Saturday at Forest, some of our players looked like they had just been relegated, instead of just losing a close fought game by one goal.

Brookes ("with his school boy looks"), will, I believe, be relishing this moment of his life, starting some games, coming off the bench for others, becoming an internet/social media sensation with that nutmeg at the Sty. Having TV pundits rave about him. Why risk all that?, if he can stay fit, the money will come eventually, if not here then elsewhere.

Managers and players come and go, we all know that, the only one constant factor, is us, the supporters, born, grow up and eventually die, supporting our club and no other.

We all have favourites and sometimes players we don't like, but for once, I really don't want any player or manager/staff to move on. I want this unit to stay together as long as possible.

UTB!

Quality post.

Money isn’t everything to everyone.

And while some of our players may be courted by clubs prepared to offer them sums beyond us at the moment, the fact remains that we aren’t paying these boys peanuts as it stands.

The big name players....Flecks, Coutts, Sharps etc etc...will be earning at least £300k a year. That’s a conservative estimate, and I wouldn’t be surprised if some are closer to 500k. A player who’s focus is on his football and family will not want for anything.
A secure future should be attainable for those lads on those kinds of wages, and when it’s done they can look back on a career they will have enjoyed and be idolised by the fans of a proper football club. Well rounded individuals with a future in the game as coaches too no doubt.

Young Brooks.....may be another pay rise coming his way. For a lad his age who’s had one disappointment and on a second chance I’m sure he will be loving it now. Happy he has made it against the odds. I’m certain his focus will be solely on his football and will have little interest in chasing the money. Still....I suspect he will have more money now than he knows what to do with.

If Wilder continues to do well, I think we have another 18 months of his services if we don’t make the premier league. I believe the owners will at least resist bids for him and his players for that long to see where he’s can take us.

Why not ask which testicle you'd like cutting off?

Personally I'd quite like to keep both, thank you very much, and put the scissors down if you'd be so kind.

Are you genuinely asking if I'd rather lose one of the best managers we've had in my life time? Who managed to completely overhaul a sluggish and lethargic team from mid table mediocrity to a team that plays the best football I've ever seen a United side play and may very realistically be pushing from promotion to the premier league. Or a promising youngster who's made a great start to the season under the guidance of Wilder and Knill and looks to have enough skill to potentially go all the way- but is still just one player.

If we had to choose Wilder or Brooks, anyone who doesn't choose the manager is mad.

Threads like this mean one thing.

The international break has well and truly arrived.

You obviously haven’t read my second post...

What if Wilder goes to Everton?
What if Brooks goes to Liverpool/Spurs/Man U/Arsenal?
What if Billy suddenly decides he's a wednesday fan?
What if the bomb under the kop goes off?
What if Trump and Kim Jong Un start WW3 and all football is postponed until the hostilities end?
What if aliens invade and abduct all our players for intergalactic sports related research?

What if we stop making up silly hypotheticals for every possible scenario that could go wrong..

I know that Lafferty was on 300k last year BEFORE bonuses, so our squad may be more highly rewarded than we thought.
