Nigel said he was looking at a few options ahead of the Bradford game.

Looks like they wont be completed in time?

I wonder if we can fill a bench?

After all the pre deadline day expectations, it's disappointing.
Bradford sold Wells and obtained a replacement almost overnight.

It certainly looks like the Honeymoon could be over for Nigel.

I think it will be for some if his signings aren't up to scratch,
Is it maybe that Nigel's game is a little more patient than some fans would like, if so I'd like to remind them that a mass influx of new faces is what got us down here in first place.
"We don't need quantity, we need quality" is the watch word, but a bit more consistency from those we already have would certainly go a long way while we're waiting , .

It's not a cash issue. It's clearly a consequence of where we are in the league and our struggle to make any further impact up the table since scraping out of the bottom four.

If you are a striker pushing to get a first team place at a championship side and what to get some game time why the hell would you go to a struggling side that fails to create chances and has little or no pace in it to do so? Surely you would want to join a team that is flying high, has bags full of confidence and is likely to improve your game so you go back to your parent club with some benefit and a chance to break into their first team.

I suspect that whoever comes in at the end of this process will have already been through the loop with other clubs but couldn't strike a deal. We are like the old and weakened hyena of the pack, waiting until all the younger and fitter animals have had their fill from the kill. Even if we are close to grabbing a fringe player I'll bet that player is holding off to see if they get a more attractive offer from somewhere else. We are no where near the draw that we'd like to think we are.

Another thing - don't expect anything before the end of the JTW since we are not buying players but looking to loan.
We will be scrapping around the crumbs that are left after the other teams have had their pick and the fourth round of the FA Cup has concluded. Fringe players normally get a chance to play in that compo as managers rotate their squads hoping to keep their first team players bright and fit for their league campaign. NC will be fully aware of this, probably the main reason why there is still no sign of replacements for Brandy and Cuvelier et al, since he will have had some relatively positive responses but nobody is prepared to let go until they are 100% sure they can afford to do so.

Yes it is. We can't attract players because we won't pay the going rate. All this crap about not being able to compete with the likes of Peterborough and Rotherham etc because they are higher in the league is just yet another excuse. We have been a selling club for years and nothing has changed. Our response to facing relegation is to get rid of players and not bring anyone in. Bonkers. We seem to be sleepwalking into League 2.

So what is the 'going rate?'

I don't know why this makes me smile, it just does:-

Quite the selection dilemma for our Nigel, an embarassment of midfield riches you might say.

(Murphy is listed under strikers if you're wondering).

We cannot afford to wait until the summer to get someone in. As absolutely absurd as it sounds, we really do need to just throw some money 'League 1 Manchester City style' at a top-class, proven goalscorer and pay them whatever it takes to get them to come here because we're in a massive relegation dogfight and have an enormous problem with finishing off chances (Paynter looks to be an upgrade on Porter but is not by a long shot the solution to our goalscoring problem).

The inflated cost of getting someone in now is absolute peanuts compared to how much we'll lose should we drop to League 2; which ,unless the squad is improved NOW, is a very, very, real possibility.

They put in enough chances today but out of 25 shots only 10 on target.
Poor finishing is costing points, missed chances just gives the opposition the confidence to move forward when they know it will take 25 shots to get two goals they don't have much to fear. This group are simply lacking with not enough spirit to endure a relegation battle.Miller is not the same player post injury and Porter is not a goal scorer. With the good attendance \I would have expected more movement in by now.Or are we waiting for the deadline only to get scewed as usual.
