If mr clough hadn't lost his job at derby would he been on anyone's short list for the blades job?. When David weir was under pressure I never heard clough mentioned. Then he's the man.

Probably not because he was known to be very loyal. In fairness he didn't exactly light up the forum when he was rumoured to be coming in. Funny thing is that he's since been the best thing to happen to our club in my 37 years on this planet.

Good question and welcome to the forum.

He wasn't one i was thinking of, but when i found out he was going to be our manager i was happy that he'd do a good job and stabilise the club like he has done where ever he's been.

The next question is can he take us to the next level? Up until now he hasn't been able to do it with any other league club, lets see if he can change the routine and take us to where we belong, that's the Championship atleast. I'm getting less confident by the day mind.

If he hadn't lost his job at derby then no, because you wouldn't bother trying to tempt a manager to drop down a division.

He seemed secure at Derby and all of us will have assumed he was there for the long haul. He still thinks he should have had more time at Derby and I doubt we would have ever tried to tempt him away.

I don't think he's not experienced enough this is probably the most pressure he's been under in all his career. He doesn't know his best side not all of his signings have worked out. The cup runs have brought added pressure to perform in the league. I think he doesn't know what to do.

For reasons stated above he wouldn't have been in the mix for the job, and a few are clapping relentlessly about clough, while others slash away, but most on the whole are happy with him because the club are happy with him, and were sick of changing managers left right and centre, its poor at the moment on the pitch and I lay it squarely at cloughs feet and nobody elses, but, we must change the culture of this club to one that doesn't overreact time and time again resulting in a manager getting sacked before being given a good crack at it, we've got to bite the bullet one day and give another manager the time we gave warnock, it can't be a co incidence that in recent years he's the longest serving that deliverd the most sucess....

If your post is to find out what we think we've got in clough, then nobody will be able to tell you definitively, one week world beaters, next week hopeless...

I think the cups have turned our players into big game charlies if I'm honest though...

Perhaps him and is back room stand don't know or understand League 1 , as much as they thought they did . Bit of a fish out of water syndrome in there somewhere.

Clough joined us because the prince had arrived and had altered our financial situation. The whole scenario took us by surprise. I don't think there ever was a shortlist. We head-hunted him, sold him our ambition and he saw the potential to rebuild a club that had been in the wilderness:tumbleweed:. Might take a while.

Swizzler, looking like Chris Moyles is one thing, coming out with his level of cark is quite another......

Short list....

I genuinely thought this was going to describe the height issue of our team and was going to post the heights of our Lilliputian Dream Boys. Be interesting to compare with say Man City or Stoke.

Nigel Clough's red and white diddymen army...Nigel Clough's red and white diddymen army...

Always was a three year plan, question is has this year been a failure that turns it in to a four year plan or are we were they thought we might be?

3 year plan? I'm sure there was one and I seem to recall a 5 year plan too.

Wasn't the 5 year plan to reach the Premier League?

All the time we are in league 1 it's costing the prince money. I'm sure we are well behind plan and the pressure is building at all levels.

On the day that my grandfather took me to my first game at Bramall Lane, he said, "look around you lad, one day this old wooden stand, the cricket pitch and pavilion will all be gone, to be replaced by a pretty decent 32,500 all-seater stadium that becomes a bear pit when full. That's the good news lad".

"There's some bad news, Grandad?"

"Yes, you'll have to share it with some of the most miserable, moaning bastards that ever walked the earth".

Looks like the plan is for a whistle stop tour of the Championship aka Southampton.

Tell me you're not serious Swiss

And which planet are you on exactly...?

If he hadn't lost his job at derby then no, because you wouldn't bother trying to tempt a manager to drop down a division.

Managers do drop down divisions if the club trying to get them is a sufficiently tempting proposition when compared with the club that the particular manager is already at. For instance, Porterfield dropped two divisions when he came to us, but at the time he was with Rotherham. I am not trying to be disrespectful to Rotherham, but I would suggest that even now, if we were two divisions below Rotherham most managers would see us as a club with far more potential than them.

That would not be the case with Derby.

Yeah in the 80s it was realistic. We could maybe attract a manager from a club struggling in the championship playing in front of significantly smaller crowds than us but that's about it.
