Well...i dont know about you...but i went to The Blades V Morecambe in the cup last night...and i have to tell you...i was well impressed by Luton Sheltons performance obviousley both the goals just increased his chance of a first choice place. Last season me and a friend watched Sheffield United V Manchester United last season...and when warnock put on shelton we was both surprised to see he would put him on in a game such as that, we was both impressed with his performance...but we both said ''Aanyone can put in a good peformance in the first game...just have to see if he keeps it up'' but since his great performance against the devils warnock wouldnt give him the light of day...tonight he proved he is certainly first choice material and it wasnt down to his goals.

What do you think? Should Shelton be in the first choice squad?

I really don't know who can play alongside Beattie.

Sharp, Webber, Stead and Shelton are all trying to prove a point.

If I was Robson id be scratching my head right now. lol

Stead and BT seem to have a good partnership going, but then again Stead got his chance after a good CC performance so i think definatley put him in the squad.
And it depends on Southamptons defence (not seen or heard anything) whether they'll out muscle him or he'll outpace them

EDIT:It's good to have competition for places upfront bladesman:D

I know it is.

Makes a change to see us scoring shit loads of goals.

Just a pitty we seem to be leaking the same amount we are scoring.

iv always said give shelton a chance, probably fastest player in the league and i think he will be a great asset to us :D

It's nice that Robson has such selection problems up front.

We just need the same in midfield and defence now.

:)

P.S. Welcome to the forum mate!

He did well last night, I still think he has something lacking and I'd send him out on loan for a month to someone in League One and see how he goes.

I think his pace and dribbling can be devastating, I think he just needs to be a bit more intelligent with his runs, because he has the potential to be brilliant.

He was a constant thorn in Morecambe's side all of last night.

The goals topped off a magnificent performance, and would definately go with BT and Bus Shelter up front.

I would still expect Robbo to go with Beattie and Stead at the weekend with Sharp and Shelton on the bench. It will be harsh on both lads as it s ounds as if they were fantastic last night but until they do it in the league or against a higher class of opposition i can't see they dislodging the afore mentioned partnership.

With 2 games in 4 days coming up i think all 4 of the form strikers will see at least 30 mins football each; those that manage to score the goals will put themselves at the top of the pecking order.

If only we had these selection 'problems' in the middle of the park!

He was outstanding throughout and took his goals really well.
Only downside is his inability to win headers and the way we play at times (hoof it at Beattie's face) that may count against him.
Definitely someone to bring on if the opposition defence is playing a high line. He'll scare the hell out of em

Agree

I agree, it certainly is a sight to see robbson havin such selection problems all strikers seem very comvertable on the pitch, and with the rest of the squad. I certainly think Quinn(s), Geary and gillespie should be a partner-ship...the defence is my biggest concern as a fan.

we can score goals tho, we are scoring loads with whoever plays at the moment. Its just our defence we need to get sorted shouldnt be losing a game we have scored two in.

The strikers at the club are doin their job with the help for the midfield, now our defending needs to be looked at big time.

Good result last night, i aint gettin carried away tho, it was only morecambe, i know they knocked wolves and preston out, but any team should be expected to beat then.

Well he played great last night, totally ripped their defence apart and should have bagged a few more. Would i start him Saturday with Beattie? I don't know. Like someone has mentioned it depends on their defence as to weather he starts or not.

A complete stable squad has always been uniteds problem, if its not the attack it the defence...last season the midfield wasnt all that great, and neither was the defence, and it does seem lack more passion since we saw davis go to derby our only hope we have is morgan...who is a real good defender...but like we say down at sellhurst...he makes some real stupid decisions once in a while.

Back to the matter in hand...lets not forget the return of Robbie Hulse i have reason to beleive we will be seeing him pretty soon giving robbson a much bigger attack problem lol just gets better and better doesnt it

i didnt go last night but he sounded impressive on the radio, only thing i'm thinking is it was only morecambe, it would be interesting to see how a partnership with beattie would go in the championship. I've seen shelton once away at man u and he looked quality then, think he should be given a chance but then surely stead hulse (when fit) and webber (proven championship scorer) should come before him. Its a difficult one for robson, but i'm glad we have so many strikers who are scoring goals.

I agree that our deffence has been sub-par of late but i think we have the personnel already at the club to put this right. Our midfield still needs an overhaul and, in my opinion, it is this area that needs urgent attention; regardless of the fact that we scored goals last night.

Also lets not forget the Horse surely he is in line for an appearance soon. :D

i think shelton is an impact player, stik him on in 75th minute when the defene is tired at keep letting him run at them and giving him through balls.

But surely our midfield isnt that bad as to score goals the strikers need good balls to feed off, and we are scoring goals.

In my mind its our defence. If we score two goals in a game this should enough to win. But our defence is letting us down.

Contrary to that, if our midfield were keeping possession effectively and helping out our back 4 then that would ease the pressure and ultimately reduce the amount of goals that we are shipping. The job of a midfielder is more then just playing through balls, central midfielders are arguably the most important part of a team and for me our lack of quality in that area is the reason we are struggling.

Incidentally, I’ve yet to see a goal that has been created by one of our midfielders this season; the fact that we are managing to score goals has much more to do with the quality of our strikers.

If it were not for James Beattie I honestly believe that we would be down there with Wednesday and Preston.

could maybework, BT hold it up and flick it on to shelton

I think Shelton and Sharp now deserve their chance- maybe Shelton more...
i would have both at least on the bench.
Would like to see how Bt and Shelton partership would go...
hopefully it will start this Saturday.

Whilst I know Sharp got 2 goals, I thought his finishing on 3 other excellenet chances was poor.

Somehow though in the star Sharp got MOTM

Shelton RM? ... Just a thought ... Give us pace & skill ... Make Keef work for his place?

Wouldn't drop Stead though as I think hes been best player for us (behind BT)

Could have a point there BexleyBlade. I haven't been impressed with Gillespie at all this season, plus Carney is injured.
