I was invited onto this award winning (apparently) podcast to help preview the Blades and there was also Norwich, Newcastle and Villa chat. This was recorded on 22nd July. It features insight into all the clubs mentioned, a look at signings, formations and predictions.

The other podcasters predicted doom and gloom for our team
But you stood your ground really well giving several reasons why SU fans can be optimistic about our chances next season.
Made me smile how the Norwich fan said us and Leeds were the 2 best teams to go to Carrow Road last season
Then the Villa fan said that us and Leeds were the 2 best teams to go to Villa Park last season.
He admitted we annihilated them at VP even though they scraped a 3-3 draw then you mentioned our 4-1 outclassing of Villa at Bramall Lane.

One point you could have mentioned which I try to explain to neutrals when they ask “why are Sheffield United so good when they seem to have average players”?

Normally teams over perform because they have a manager like a Neil Warnock who motivates the players to give 100%.
However although this applies to Wilder my theory is that CW has a clear vision of exactly how he wants his team to play
And has a clear vision of the tactical role of each individual player within the team tactics.

So Wilder doesn’t just buy good players, he buys players to fit a specific role which they practice and play over and over again.

This means that some of Wilders buys might look underwhelming because previously they’ve only been half decent or average
But under Wilder they transition into playing high quality football and look really good players within our team framework.

That’s exactly what Bassett did too. He identified what he wanted from each position and signed players accordingly.
Obviously with the change in the way we coach players and the improvement of pitches means CW has been able to find players with good general technical skills as well as specific attributes which allows us to play tidy football.

Hence Old School meets New School.

Go back to Shankly and his approach was good players who made good decisions, coached to full fitness and willing to work as part of a team.

Some things don’t change.
