Something tells me this thread is about to make a sharp turn....

A Google? Is that what the kids are calling it these days?

She makes it hard not to like her!!!
Danny04 I can see the reasoning for Warnock, but i think the likes of Michael Brown, Tonge, Jags and Morgan did just as much as Warnock. I suppose from the outside, Warnock was the man and thats probably where they picked the Blades winner from.
Personally though, as much as i liked Warnock for what he (eventually) achieved, Wilder did more in his first season than Warnock could ever do.

I believe the new term is "to go and wash the ferret..."

Kevin McCabe.
He has gone through some turbulent times with the blades - Wilson had a 1 out, 1 in policy placed upon him for example.
He has also employed some complete tools - Robson, Speed, Weir, Adams, Adkins and (with the exception of Speed) had to dig into his pockets to relieve them of their duties. We were to some extent a poisoned chalice since Kevin Blackwell left the club where nothing appeared to go right for us. Clough and Wilson flirted with promotion but for a team of our size, in the third tier for as long as we were most certainly puts us on unstable ground. McCabe has done what he had to do to manage us out of the situation whilst balancing the books too.
Take the pigs for example. If they don't get up this season with the money they've spent, they are proper fucked.
Good job i didnt add that i would also have John Harris above Neil Warnock

Yeah i appreciate its not your list and like i said, i can see the point. As i said though, i think Wilder has done more in a season than Warnock did in many more. It’s not my list but I think it’s fair enough, in the last 20 years there’s been one promotion to the Premier League and he was the man who delivered it, plus the Triple Assault season. Few more seasons of Tuftyball though and it’s cut and dried in his favour
SUFC’s modern hero from the last 20 years, according to the Daily Telegraph... Neil Warnock.
‘The obdurate Yorkshireman oversaw United's most successful period in recent history by leading the club to the semi-finals of the FA and League Cups in 2003 and promotion to the Premier League in 2006.’

Just shows the level we've been wallowing in for so many years.Taking Wilder and last year's side out of the occasion then its hard to look past Warnock. However, he divides opinion like nobody else in the club's history so hero probably seems a stretch.
I'd say Chris Morgan is the only other real contender.

Of course, it’s up to us to point out and humiliate these weak minded pussies as they start to surface. If we lose 5 on the spin, people will be slagging CW to high heaven.
If / when he leaves, the perpetually embittered will denigrate his achievements.
Such is life.

I’d have to say that much as we all want to justify Wilder being towards the top, getting United promoted from the third division does not, in itself, compare with getting us into the premiership, promotion for promotion. That’s a much harder task.Yeah i appreciate its not your list and like i said, i can see the point. As i said though, i think Wilder has done more in a season than Warnock did in many more.
To quantify that, Warnock created a team to get promoted, he achieved that. He got the best out of many players who'd lost their way and were in the last chance saloon. I liked Warnock and his ability to get teams promoted is unrivalled. His ability to motivate and play some decent football is fantastic. No arguments there.
Wilder, also brought in to deliver promotion, similarly after several poor years, just like Warnock.
However, the major difference and the reason i'd say that Warnock isn't a 'Hero' is Warnock does what its takes to achieve that one goal. There was no long term plan with Warnock. I think perhaps similar to Bassett, they had constraints with finances. When Warnock got us up, he didn't do well. He wasn't able to take us on further.
Wilder, so far has delivered beyond his remit. I believe he's building a legacy at the club, he's not just gained promotion, he's built the club from the ground up. Warnock was supportive of the academy, but he didn't create a pathway, i think Wilder is creating that pathway.
I'm sure you've seen more behind the scenes than many on here, but i believe that there is a Ferguson-esque pathway being created, there is a real 'marginal gains' system in place which is obvious, getting players leaner, fitter, sharper and technically better than we've ever been in my lifestyle. And is this with a big budget? Quite the contrary, probably within his budget.
Is Wilder therefore the Modern day hero which Warnock was never able to be?
“Stick your cock in her”
Yeah I didn’t want to focus solely on the promotion because whilst that was a target which was achieved with great success, it’s been part of a complete recovery and revolution of the club which I’d say makes him more of a hero at supporter, club and owner levels than anyone else in the last 20 yearsI’d have to say that much as we all want to justify Wilder being towards the top, getting United promoted from the third division does not, in itself, compare with getting us into the premiership, promotion for promotion. That’s a much harder task.
There are a bunch of other pro’s for Wilder, including the superb style of play and his honesty / plain speaking nature. And to be fair his promotion did involve turning around the carnage of the previous 2 managers.
Now I know you are just a WUM.
You never studied anything at Uni...

Great post, largely agree. My doubt is that I think it should take more than a year to gain hero status. But on the other hand, what a year!As for modern hero.
Warnock did great things for us but we were far from our lowest ebb in modern times when he came in. Also he made us hard working, tough to beat and (at times) exciting to watch - but no one can ever universally love or respect a Warnock side and he never had a side playing like this Wilder one.
Really, you want a modern hero - a fan from a young boy, returning to the club he has always loved to help drag us from our lowest ebb, our longest period outside the top flight and something that looked likely to continue for seasons to come, into a beautiful footballing United side getting 100 points for the first time in our history.
Yes it's more recent, yes it's at a lower level than Warnock or Bassett but remember how United under Adkins made you feel. Imagine how little you cared about the lap of dis-honour or that awful side - now think how you look forward to match days like you are a teenager again, seeing effort and skill like never before for many of us.
Yes our modern hero is a person who fits the above. For getting my club back and rekindling my passion and undying love for this club. There is one modern hero streets ahead of Warnock, a proper Blade making other Blades dreams come true.
Not sure which one it is though - it could be either one of them. My modern heroes.

Trouble with Warnock underneath all his Bladey bluster. I think he would have took the job at Swilsborough in a heartbeat......If they'd have had him.
Also not only did he manage at Bellend Road he also took a host of former Blades heros there..... to add to all the others down the years.
So as a manager he deserves all the plaudits. As a man.........bit of a cunt.
