Coming in to play in our U21 side, after a 2 year injury nightmare at Derby, just to help him, but could it be a possible loan?

Reading the actual news article, looks to be purely a rehab thing, given his age, he can only play in 2 games for us, then will move to another club, play 2, and so on......

Derby County’s Shaun Barker has been given permission to play a maximum of two trial matches for League 1 side Sheffield United.

Barker, 32, has been given the green light to feature for the Blades’ Under 21 side during this month, as an overage player, to continue his return to fitness after suffering a serious knee injury in March 2012.

After returning to training earlier this year, Barker played 45 minutes for Derby’s Under 21 side last month against Doncaster Rovers.

Derby are set to utilise the ability to field three overage outfield players in the coming weeks for players either on the fringes of the first-team squad or returning from injury, so the opportunity for Barker would be limited with the Rams.

In the event that the games go well at Sheffield United, he is likely to have the opportunity to feature in trial matches at other clubs in the coming months to progress his rehabilitation.

Is he Scottish?

He's a Nottingham lad Ken, been out of the game for almost two and a half years, he's 32, a defender, and was well regarded at Derby. Not sure if there's a possibility of something happening beyond this brief loan. I guess it depends on how well he does and whether it's mutually beneficial.

Undoubtedly a good player but a massive ask to come back after 2.5 years injured especially aged 32.

Only an agreement to play 2 max trial matches at this stage but it wouldn't be the biggest surprise to see some sort of deal announced esp if TK will be out of action for the foreseeable.

Would be a good free signing for a cb which we need can score goals and defend brilliantly was great before he got injured should look at this guy for a contract

I suspect if NC hadn't been relieved of his duties, Barker would have joined us over summer.

would it be good to sign a CB who has been injured for 3 years? NO
Heard he was back in training before end of last season and played a match with the derby under 21 side before derby released him
