Season tickets prices cut, plus shirt reward

Sheffield United today (2nd March) announced they are reducing the cost of watching the Blades next season.

The move to cut prices up to £30 on last season's renewal costs, is a further development of United's policy of keeping football affordable.

Another highlight is an extension of the scheme to provide free admission for youngsters when accompanied by adults. Children up to the age of 13 can now participate.

United's affordable football scheme means an adult fan sitting in the Frasers Properties Kop could be watching the Blades for as little as £279 next season, an overall saving of 17.8% or £80 based on those season ticket holders who bought at the non-discounted, full price this season.

Also, in a unique move, to reward the loyalty of renewing season ticket holders (the club has more than 19,000) each will receive free a replica third shirt being introduced to mark the 120th anniversary of the birth of the Championship club.

The black shirt, commemorating the oldest United in the football league, has, woven into the fabric, the name of each player ever to have played for the Blades.

Other elements include

* A payment plan extended to over eight months from five months to spread the cost for a little over £9 a week

* Savings of up to £119 on adult membership match by match ticket prices

* Guaranteed seat for home League Cup and FA Cup matches

* Ten per cent discount in the Blades Superstore

* 200 bonus loyalty points in addition to the 2,500 season ticket allocation when renewed by 9th April

The season ticket renewal package (deadline 9th April), applicable if the club gains promotion to the Premier League, is further evidence of United's progressive and sympathetic pricing policy.

Chief Executive Jason Rockett said: "As a club we are continuing with our policy to make football affordable and accessible to all.

"Our move last season to let Under 12s attend free has proved very popular. We have taken the step to extend this to Under 13s as part of our commitment to the fans of the future.

"More than ever it is necessary to be flexible in these challenging economic times. We hope, by reducing season ticket prices and extending our easy payment options to over eight months, it will ease the financial burden on the club's supporters.

"Additionally, our 120th anniversary celebrations provide a further opportunity to repay our loyal fans with the unique shirt offer." added Jason.

The 120th anniversary shirt will be the official Blades third kit for next season and is exclusively available to renewing season ticket holders from September.

"Its commissioning is one of a number of ways the club will be celebrating with supporters in the coming months the birth of the Blades and the playing of the first-ever competitive fixture.

Good move, well done Blades :)

Excellent stuff, except for yet another chuffing shirt! And now over to the grunters for their response?

It's a free shirt for ST holders though :)

It'd be better if they knocked £50 off the price of the season ticket and gave people the option of buying the shirt or not.

Still... I didn't expect them to be cheaper. At best I expected the prices to stay the same.

Rather have my season ticket reduced to 3-3-9.

Mine is if the £30 is across the board.

It was £429 last year... minus the £30...

If your ST was more expensive, you've been had.

EDIT... In fact... looking at it... my ST cost £409 last season for some reason. Bargain! ;)

Thats 399 not good enough to be honest. :)

Ignore me... number dyslexic.

Still... a possible £379 is good compared to what I was fearing.

They usually add £20 on... not knock money off.

This bit confuses and worries me.

Does it mean that this offer only applies if we get promoted, or that it still applies if we get promoted?

Or does it refer to a different element of the offer?

I read it as "still" applicable if we get promoted... but you're right, it can be read the other way.

I assume the full prices will be released tomorrow... so we shall see.

I'd pretty much decided to pass on an ST for next season as I'll be taking at least one holiday during the season, and was thinking I really should do something different with some of my saturdays other than drive up to Sheffield. Then they go and reduce the price yet again, throw in a free shirt, add a better pay by installments deal....I mean, are they trying to make it into an 'offer you can't refuse'?! Bastards!

Hello Berks :) not seen you around for a while.

Just a question... what is there to do on Saturday's apart from football? :D Share your secret and it'll save me a fortune!

I think this is fantastic news.

I was planning on renewing anyway, so a saving (Plus again a free ticket for Mini_MAQ again) and this anniversary shirt is all a bonus for me.

I accept that its all horses for courses, but for me this is ACE!! :D

Excellent news. Jason Rockett has just been on SSN, and I forgot how much like a bouncer he looks. It certainly seems that the word 'still' was missed out of the club's communiqué.

The shirt's a great bonus as well!

Well, that's the question isn't it....I have this fantasy that there's a whole new world of exciting, glamorous stuff to be doing that it's only football keeping me away from. I could be wrong!
