With just 90 mins left of our season i thought i'd put together the highs and lows from each month throughout the season to sum up our season review. A lot of this is in my opinion obviously but some of it i don't think many could argue with.

August
We started off the season with a good 0-0 draw at much fancied Middlesborough although it was a game of few chances i thought we showed that will be a hard team to beat. The high of the month had to be the 3-1 away win at Reading great result, good performance and one that shocked a lot of blades fans. We finished an unbeaten league month with a point against West Brom a team for me that came for a point and got it. The obvious low was being dumped out the cup by Port Vale, something that showed us early doors we didn't have a great deal of depth to the squad.

September
Through the transfer window kept hold of killa and in came James Harper, off the other way went Brian Howard the only real movements for Sheffield United. The month high was the 3-2 win over the piggys, even though we were 3 up at HT i thought overall we deserved all 3 points. The low of the month for me wasn't the defeat to Coventry, even though it was our first of the season in the league, the defeat to Swansea left a lot of blades frustrated at the fact they went down to 10 men at 1-1 and still managed to find a winner and even finished the game with 9 men.

October
The worst month of the season from a results point of view, Our first home defeat to Cardiff but before that 2 shocking away performances at Scunny and Blackpool left a lot of blades calling for Blackies head after we slipped to 13th in the league.

November
We started the month with a live sky fixture against Newcastle an average performance from both side and a deflected Newcastle goal won it for the visitors. The high of the month was the last gasp 96th minute winner at Bristol City by Hendo to complete his hat-trick even though Bristol had got a 95th minute equaliser. There wasn't really a low in that month apart from the fact the blades were failing to really put together a good performance for the full 90 mins a poor 1-0 win against Peterborough was a good example of a game i thought we didn't really deserve to win.

December
Probably the best month for results, a 2-0 win over palace the highlight of the month getting one over former manager Neil Warnock. The only defeat in that month was to Leicester on boxing day, a poor first half display live on sky left us 2-0 down and to much to do.

January
A month that saw the transfer window re open and want away defender Killa finally left the club. Kyle walker also left after his loan spell was cut short something that left a lot of blades fans asking questions. We played our first league game of the year against Middlesborough on the 16th due to the snow and FA cup. Beating QPR in a replay after a poor draw in the first leg was probably the only high. 2 wins and 2 defeats in the league saw us finished January still in the playoff picture in 6th, with very winnable games to come. The low was being knock out of the cup to Bolton after 5000 blades fans went up hoping for an upset.

February
Packed with 7 games we only ended up playing 6 after the peterborough game was called off, the only game in the football league that day. A mixed month which against saw us pick up maximum points from all our home games but lost all 3 away not scoring in any of them, finishing the month in 7th just a point off the playoffs. This did include a 7 goal thriller against Plymouth in a game where utd were 3 up.

March
The busiest month of the season 7 games in all and where 2 records were broken. Peterborough recorded there first ever win over utd and Scunthorpe won there first ever game at Bramall Lane a double low for me. With just 1 win in the month utd slipped to 10th and playoffs looking very unlikely.

April
It was finally confirmed that the playoffs would be a step to far this season something that most blades fans expected, especially after we had failed to win in any of the away games in the league since Plymouth back in December. Scoring only 7 goals in the 12 away games we had, a very poor record.

In conclusion
A very average season especially after getting to the playoff final last year. Lots of loan players meant it was difficult to have a settled team and some poor tactics especially away from home has meant a lot of fans want to see blackie sacked. It is disappointing when expectations at BDTBL are so high. A bit of sympathy has to be given to Kevin Blackwell with him having to cope with so many injuries to key players, however i still think the playoffs were within our reach this season. So on with next season a massive recruitment of players is needed if we are to mount any seriously challenge.

What's interesting looking back is when we talk about 'fan's expectations'. During last Summer, and particularly after the departure of the Kyle's and the 're-profiling', most on here were predicting a mid table finish. A finish of 8th in the table given the injuries and constant changing of the team could be looked upon as a decent achievement (lights touch paper and stands well back :-))

The way I look at it now, and presuming there'll be no managerial change, we are actually in a decent position for next season, particulalry when you look at the team's coming down and the fact that a lot will be in a much worse financial position than us.

But, as with many seasons past, it's all about recruiting the right players. The club have made the right noises about learning from the mistakes of last season, let's see if they follow it through.

I'd even go as far as saying that the 3 teams coming up whoever they maybe will be stronger than the 3 coming down. I don't doubt we come be in a strong position as long as the right players are brought in.

I don't entirely agree with that but I know where you're coming from. Personally I think Leeds are the only side (currently in contention from League One) that could hack it near the top of the Championship.

Norwich have been dominant but with players that are good at that level. They will find the Championship an entirely different proposition. I cant see any of the playoff sides in L1 doing that well, although I think all of them would be good enough to stay up.

From the sides coming down I only see Burnley mounting a challenge at the moment. They will keep most of their squad together, have players and a manager that know the division well and according to their chairman they are better off financially. They should be up there I think. Hull and Portsmouth will be complete wild cards. Their teams will be taken apart over the summer so who knows with them. They could both go either way.

I think United have a decent chance of finishing in the top 6 next season if they spend wisely over the summer and keep some of the better players at the club. The division could be wide open as there is no one at present that looks particularly outstanding. My bet for the top 6 challengers, in no particular order would be;

Blades
QPR
Burnley
Reading
Bristol City
Leicester (if they fail to go up)
Notts Forest (if they fail to go up)
Leeds (dark horse if they dont blow it saturday)
