Season Long Loans

Can someone explain to me how these work. According to the official Fooltball League rules;

"48.2.1 A Player can only be transferred on a Long Term Loan if he was under the age of 23 on the 30th June prior to the Season in which the Long Term Loan transfer is intended to take place."

Ben Watson is 24 yet has just signed for QPR on a season long loan. Rumours that Howard may be going to Reading on a season long yet he's 26.

Whilst we're at it, how has Bunn signed for us until January when the maximum loan period is 93 days ?

Still can't see how that would work either. As the rules go, he can be with them for a maximum of 93 days then they have to sign him. We had the same problem when Cahill's loan ran out 2 years ago.

Has the 93 day rule been scrapped ?!?!?

The transfer system is far far too complicated nowadays.

It was miles better for football when the transfer window was season long until the end of March and teams could bolster as and when they needed reinforcements instead of panic buying at the end of August and hoping things turned out ok

Yes but we didn't get this cut and thrust excitement on the final day. The who we going to sign fever that gets more and more frenzied as the day progresses... oh hang on a minute... may be your right.

The transfer window is the only thing that stopped United flogging Beattie last September.

I am in favour of it because it limits the number of occasions upon which we are able to sell our best players.

Deadline day used to mean flicking on to teletext and page 302 every 10 minutes or so, to see if anyone had gone anywhere and then it was back to what you was watching before.

The most annoying thing about teletext was when the deals came through the big deals would be on the first page and then you would usually flick on to it on page 2 of 6, and would be waiting ten minutes for the good stuff to come through.

Yes although we just have to accept we are a total anti-climax in the transfer market.

The 93 days ruling are for loans agreed after the transfer window has been shut. Loans agreed before 31st August or during January can be as long as a month, 6 months or for a season
