Sheffield United are signing Republic of Ireland U21 international defender Seamus Conneely for £60,000 from Galway United.

No chance. Way out of our price bracket...

Either we've got a great scouting network in Ireland or someone is signing cheap Irishmen on the off-chance one might be half decent.

According to Paul Walker, Speed has said Conneely will be with us next week - though I'm not sure if that means we're just taking a look, or he's already signed. Presumably the former.

I think Blackwell seemed terrified of taking chances on players that hadn't played at Premiership/Championship level before, hence very few foreign/lower league signings. It's probably a necessity now, but hopefully Speed will include those markets when looking for additions to the squad.

It may be a sign that we're looking for players who can try and hold their own in this league on what is presumably very low wages.

hes coming back for a 2nd week trial next week, speed said at 22 he wants to make sure he can go straight into the first team if needed before signing him.
