The top 6 clubs in the league currently looks like this (with league goals scored next to them):

1. Bristol City 37
2. Swindon 39
3. MK Dons 40
4. Preston 33
5. Blades 26
6. Rochdale 36

Even Barnsley in 15th have scored 30! Why are we so crap at scoring goals and will anything change to improve this before the seasons out?

Gaviar , its not goals , its 3 points we need per game . give me 1-0 to the Arsenal every game until the end of the season . Hope the goals do come from a entertainment / winning aspect , but i seriously doubt it. Stop letting in goals defensively and the rest will take care of themselves. Its results we need and i am not bothered how we get them . I would like us all to be saying ---- we are not scoring many goals , we are playing crap , but who cares we are winning.

I get what you're saying LBOE,but isn't it about time we took the pressure of our defence by scoring a few more goals than what we are doing, this will then breed confidence throughout the squad and will no doubt bring better results. If McNulty plays more iv'e no doubt in my mind that we will score more goals.

Wizardry . Good point . Goals breed confidence in both team and fans . Agree with you . Let us hope it happens , starting tomorrow . It would be good to get a resounding win against Southampton , to kick start our season .

Thanks for the thoughts guys, I realise 1-0 wins all season would get us promoted, but even that is a very dangerous game as we
put pressure on ourselves to defend a small lead each time, plus as has been said, we aint that great defensively. The biggest worry for me over the last 3 yrs since a certain striker was sent down has been goals, I cant believe its still the main problem.

As Brian Clough said when he signed Peter Shilton - 'If we stop the opposition scoring we stand a good chance of not losing'
Twenty 1-0 wins from now till the end of the season will do for me !

We haven't scored more than 3 goals in a league match for over two years now.

17 November 2012

Sheffield United 4-1 Stevanage
Collins 19'
Miller 55', 70'
Porter 87'

Yeah but we don't have a goal scoring problem so it's all good. :tumbleweed:

I was a bit worried when I saw that forcing someone to watch our forward line in action was one of the more effective CIA enhanced interrogation techniques. Apparently, it was one that the Senate Committee decided could only properly be described as torture.:(

OK so I decided to expand on this by seeing how bad we were compared to the other teams in the league.

Oh dear.

If you had a choice;
We lose to Southampton
And we beat Walsall 4-0
Or
We beat Southampton 1-0 to get into the semi final, then we beat Walsall 1-0 to carry on our resurgencebut still only score once?

Fairly obviously I would chose a 1-0 win in both matches, is this the worst quiz question ever?

I care about winning not the score but its unlikely that we will get promoted by just winning 1-0 every week compared to scoring say 2 or 3 each week.

Really?
Trust me, if we won 1-0 every week we WOULD get promoted.
I get your point, holding on to a 1-0 is more risky than if you have a 2-3 goal cushion but going to kill games off also leaves you open at the back too. I'd like to score more, but more importantly I wanna win and get out of this crappy league

Yes I realise that actually winning 1-0 every week would get us promoted, my poorly made point was that its v unlikely and quite risky. We have drawn several games 1-1 recently, the league would look v different if we could have won even some of them 2-1. Do we draw too many as we try and sit back and defend a lead like under Wilson or we go a goal down before we bother being creative? I don't know, but i'm worried by our lack of goals. Its been a problem for too long now that other top teams (mentioned earlier in this post) in this league don't seem to have which annoys the crap out of me.

There's no question that Huddersfield walked this division the season they had Rhodes, we were arguably going to beat wed***day to 2nd too because of cheds goals, but I really like Mcnulty and I still reckon he could get us a good 15 goals still this season

I like him too and certainly hope you are right mate

So another 1-1 draw at home whilst the likes of MK dons manage to score 7..........
