Saints face Marek fight

Skysports.com understands Southampton could face a fight to keep hold of Marek Saganowski.

Saganowski is considering his options after the end of his successful loan spell at St Mary's.

The Polish hit-man joined Southampton on loan from Troyes in January and he impressed as Saints reached the play-offs only to lose to Derby in the semi-finals.

Saganowski is keen to secure a permanent move away from Troyes and his form has alerted a number of clubs in the Premiership and Championship.

The player's agent Jaroslaw Kolakowski admitted a number of clubs were chasing Saganowski, but that his preference is to stay at Southampton.

"There are a number of clubs interested in Marek, but at this moment I am in negotiations with Southampton," Kolakowski told skysports.com.

"Some Premiership clubs and Championship teams have contacted me regarding Marek.

"Marek wants to stay in England and he wants to go to a good club.

"Southampton are a good club and they are his first choice as he enjoyed him time there.

"But if talks take too long with Southampton he could move to another club."

Apparently we are one of the clubs in for him.

Looked quality from what i saw in the play off's.

He is a great player. Take if from an Owl who saw him at first hand.

The thing you have over Southampton is that they are haemmoraging money at the moment - and despite selling Bale they still leak about 1Mil a month

It kinda goes without saying you can afford his wages where they might be struggling.

Obviously, I also hope he don't go to you guys! ;-)

I think he maybe off to another club abroad.

Quality player though.

Southampton have completed the signing of Poland striker Marek Saganowski, 28, who has signed a three-year contract.

Saints say they have paid Troyes an undisclosed transfer fee, although the French club recently stated that a fee of £680,000 had been agreed.

Leicester, Watford and Burnley were also interested in signing the Pole, who was on loan at Saints last season.

"It has been pending for a while but I am delighted everything is sorted," boss George Burley said.

"He is a smashing player who showed his qualities at the end of last season."

Saganowski scored 10 goals in 13 games during last term's loan spell.

£680,000 is a bargain for a decent player like him.
