Evans crossed the ball for the first and second goal at Bournemouth. For the second goal, Evans was put through by Ertl, who pivoted on a sixpence and put through a reverse pass.

It seems the site update may have slaughtered this thread...has for me using Chrome anyway! Tables don't work anymore.

It certainly has. Looks like the new forum software doesn't support BBCodes for tables. Grrrr..

I'll keep an excel file and upload a screenshot of it instead. More updates tonight

Sheffield Utd V Scunthorpe

1-1 Quinn plays the ball threw from midfield to Cresswell,, who returns it to Quinn, quinn switches it to the right of the area for Evans. Evans cross finds williamson who volleys home. Lovely goal.
2-1 There's a bit of a mess from a corner, where it's bouncing around in the box but not really going anywhere. i've started the counter from when JF, pass the ball back to Maguire, who plays it out wide to evans. Evans cross finds quinn on the edge of the box, who's shot is deflected in

1-0 Route one stuff. Simmo's kick is flicked on by Porter (I Think). Evans fires home
2-0 Piss poor goal kick from the keeper straight to evans who rounds he keeper and fires home

1-0 From the goal kick the ball is flicked into the path of quinn by Porter(Again, i think). Quinn finds evans, who passes for hoskins to score

2-0 Big lump forward from Maguire is flicked on by Cresswell to evans who finishes from a tight angle
3-0 Williamson's free kick is cleared out to lowton, who scores from 25 yards.
4-0 Quinn Short corner to Lowton. Lowton crosses for Collins to head home.
5-1 Poor ball from the defender finds williamson.

Not going to post the current table just yet as i've clearly done some adding up wrong somewhere (I did one of these updates whilst pissed ;) )

Even accounting for errors though, Quinn is the player by far and away who's featured in in the most goals.

I'll get the updated table on here tomorrow.

Hmmz, got this working as a temporary stopgap, a little quirky though :D

How about including minutes played if we're trying to define productivity - possibly at the end.
Its a great effort to find a way to show others who don't see McD how good he's been. I would prefer them to attend games to boost the crowd. As Swiss says there could be many more ways of looking at things like the work of Lowton and Willo in working the play.
I salute the work your putting in to this though, I would not have the time or patience, well done

From post #1

I'll try and do one or two a day but University work has to take precedent.

My dissertation is more important than this thread.

Not neglecting this thread. Just going back threw and making the data more structured so we can see if peoples contributions have dropped off/got better over the course of the season.

I'll upload the spreadsheet when i'm done, so people can do some nice visualisations if they want. :)

Sheffield Utd v Chesterfield

1-0 Quinn lays the ball back to Williams who crosses intyo the centre. Evans passes with his chest into the path of williamson to volley home
2-1 - Evans Penalty
3-1 Quick Williamson free kick into the path of evans who sidefoots home
4-1 One- two between macca and williamson, macca then plays evens through, who sells with defender with a sublime dummy and then buries it into the bottom corner.

Hartlepool - Sheffield Utd
1-0 Evans penalty

Sheffield Utd v Bournemouth
1-0 A short pass from Macca to Lowton who's cross into the centre is intially blocked, but lands at the feet of evans to volley home
2-0 Macca find evans wide on the right, who's cross in bundled home by Cresswell.

Rochdale v Sheffield Utd
1-1 Huuuge punt from simmo gets a tiny flick from the defender under pressure from Cresswell (So'll give cressy an assist as well.) The ball falls to Macca on the half volley and he gives the keeper no chance
1-2 Long ball from Macca finds cresswell who plays it out wide on the left to evans. He fires home from 16 yards.
1-3 A lowton throw in is heade on by evans to quinn. Quinns deflected shot is turned in by williamson
1-4 Macca feeds williamson wide on the right and cuts it back to lowton. Lowton finds evans in the box and he tucks it away.
1-5 After some aimless bobbling around after a throw in, cresswell brings the ball clear, and finds evans who then finds doyle. Ball is fired in to the net from fully 30 yards

Sheffield Utd v Leyton Orient
1-1 Maguire plays a long ball to evans on the 6 yard box who's attempted centre is turned back to him. He gets a second bite on the cherry, and centres for williamson to score
2-1 Williamson plays the ball to Doyle in the centre who shoots home from 25 yards.
3-1 flynn plays the ball onto Evans, who takes on a couple of players and scores.

If anyone wnats to piss around with the results and maybe chart them grafikhaus :)))you can download the spreadsheet.

I've put a crude way of meauring players offensive contributions per game in there Not quite as sophisticated as Sabermetrics, but it's a start :)

each key pass counts for 1 contribution point, a goal counts as 1.5.

The resulting sum of goals and key passes is divided by the number of games that player has performed in to find the Offensive Contributions per game metric.

When ranked in this way, this is the top 5

Evans 1.73
Quinn 0.82
Williamson 0.78
Macdonald 0.74
Cresswell/Lowton 0.51

Turns out i can't upload .xls files. Foxy can you add them to the list of allowed extensions?

Fantastic contribution from lowton though. Caught out at the back a few times, but his runs from the back have brought us a number of goals

And lo and behold, here it is. I expect visualisations a go-go in the next week:)

Cheers Foxy

** bump **

Just Ollecising this, even if it is not my thread. It shows the importance of Lowton. A solid right back, that bombed forward and created a lot. One of our biggest threats and creators last season. A host of assists and a bunch of goals. That is on top of playing 50 games and contributing towards one of the best defences in the league.

Quite possible that we could start the season with only cresswell left out of that lot:(
