Aye, but a fluid, transient position. 12 months time it could be completely reversed.

Absolutely. People are taken in by a snapshot in time. SUFC are, on proper analysis, a significantly bigger club than little Brighton. That doesn't suit the cap-doffers and forelock-tuggers of S2 of course. They find comfort in their backyard inferiority complex.

The whole bigger club argument is purely subjective. Some could point to Brighton currently playing in a higher division and gaining bigger crowds as evidence to say they are bigger. Others would say that the fact they have won no major honours, only been in the top flight for 4 seasons in their history and only averaged above 10,000 4 times in the past 30 years proves differently

There is no doubt they are currently in a much better state than us though

It's more 'how far we have fallen'

It's coming to any subject with an agenda. The Murphy transfer is straightforward, he's offered a chance to double his salary and greater exposure to fulfil his ambition of playing for Scotland. All this in the rather nice surroundings on Brighton.

But if you come at the story with an agenda or mind set that the club and board are shit and always sell our best players, then spleens are vented, grudges aired and resentments revisited totally without need in this case.

The key word being NOW. They have grown as a club significantly. Two seasons ago they averaged 27000 in the second tier and we haven't done that since 1953.

We haven't won a major honour since 1925 and haven't been a top flight regular for 20 years. Difficult to cling to that as proof that we are still a BIG club.

I don't think any Brighton fans are suggesting they were a bigger club than us at the turn of the last century but one.

Yes, Murphy wanted to expose himself in Brighton.

I think Hughton's preferred formation is 4-2-3-1, which gives wingers a little more attacking freedom than Adkins' 4-4-2. Murphy may reason that it will be easier for him to impress within their set up, at a higher level and therefore he may increase his chances of international football. And he won't be earning less I'm sure.
Sadly Bergen I think your last 8 words were the most important.
