Our current options (i.e. players who have been used there in the past) are:

Right midfield: Flynn, McAllister, Chappell

Left midfield: Flynn, McFadzean, Tønne, Williams, Cresswell, Blackman

If only one loan player is brought in, should it be a right or left winger?

It will be some unheard youth team player that neither the manager or his scouts have seen. It's the blades way

I would prefer for us to promote from with-in.

Eventually we either have to go with Tonne or Mcfadzean or either sell, or loan them out.
Lets see what they can do.

Tonne could not get in York's Conference side last season so he would have to improve massively to be good enough in League 1. We are crying out for a pacey winger who can beat a man.

I would prefer us to recruit the best we possibly can! Most agree that the wide attacking areas are an obvious weak point. I have not the slightest doubt that DW shares that view and intends to do something about it in the very near future.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Westlake pushed further forward to the RM when he is fully fit. From what i know about it didn't he use to play there? Also cant see him getting infront of Tony so that may be DW's thinking!?
Agree that we need a winger though.

Don't really know what happened at York. Think he played at left back in one game that he started and was match winner in the other. Saw this post on another message board:

This idiotic line gets trotted out every time Tonne gets mentioned.

York signed him as cover when they had a few injuries, but were in good form, so a spot in their team simply never opened up for Tonne.

On the few times he did get a game he did well, but sensibly York stuck with players who were in form, contracted to them and were going to be there this season.

Flipping it around the other way, did a player who looked very promising in his appearances for United before going out on loan really degrade that much over a few months that he wasn't even good enough to play in the Conference?

His loan clearly didn't work out as planned because he didn't get much game time, but it doesn't make him a bad player. Maybe he won't turn out to be the answer, but I don't get why some people are so keen to dismiss him as an option based on a loan move to a side that got promoted without him.

Will Hoskins wasn't a successful loan for us. If he'd stayed injury free and Evans hadn't been convicted he may not have played much at all. But it'd be harsh to say that he's not up to League One level. Personally I think it's a more extreme statement to say that Tønne should NOT be tried, than to say that he should be given a try. He's quicker, a bigger goal threat and has a better left foot than Quinn. We are desperate for a natural wide man, why not try him now and find out if it works or not?

Aren't we supposed to be getting this Cole chap from Man Utd? Right winger from their youth team that beat ours last year. On loan, of course.

I'd rather us use the young wingers we have than go out searching, they're never going to get good enough by just sitting them on the bench, give them time to prove themselves. Failing that seen as we never seem to play wingers and prefer using CM then play 4-3-3, with Doyle taking the defensive role in the three in midfield allowing our full backs to get forward and offer width. We could also use one of either Blackman or Cofie in the 'hole,' personally I'd chose Cofie and allow him to have a free role, and use his ability on the ball to cause problems.

You then can still have the likes of Tonne, MacFaz and Flynn on the bench for when the opposition start to tire and stretch them further by going back to a conventional 4-4-2, let's get creative now United, promote it, Sadly though i don't think Wilson has it in him to promote a free thinking creative side, his football whilst good is rigid and structured.

If its a loan I would rather it be someone mid to late twenties who can't get in their side than an 18 yr old that we have no chance of keeping.

Yeah an experienced winger on loan with a view to a perminant move with no recall clause would be ideal for us.

I mean had we kept someone like Matty Phillips for a full season would we of probably sealed promotion before the season ended IMO.

What we don't want is some short term option who will disappear come January back to their parent club.
