Blackwell set for Owls swoop
Sheffield United, 12:30, June 11, 2009
Sheffield United look set to make a move for Sheffield Wednesday defender Richard Wood, who has just a year left on his current deal.

The highly-rated 23-year-old, and lifelong Wednesday fan, handed in a transfer request at Hillsborough last September but the Owls denied his request.

Wednesday boss Brian Laws is thought to be keen to keep hold of the towering centre-half, but if an extension to his current deal cannot be agreed it is likely he will be sold to avoid losing him for nothing next summer.

Championship rivals Ipswich Town and Crytsal Palace are also thought to be monioting Wood's situation this summer, while Coventry City have also been credited with an interest.

Looked OK against us, is this Killas replacement?

or it could be a replacement for killa (plenty of rumours about clubs in for him, plus he wants prem football) or morgan (bolton still want him)

I heard a rumour that he was on his way (to us) in January and had completely forgotten about it until I saw this latest news.

haha that would help SWFCs season ticket drive for sure!

get him snapped up

Just to add more to this, Everton are also after him.

Wasn't there a time when we were reportedly interested in him?

There was a time where we had reportedly agreed a deal for him.

I can see him in a Blades shirt in the next few months once Killa is out.
Just don't know how I feel about it, I don't suppose I've seen him enough to make a comment.

If, as has been reported, we need to cut our wage bill to match that of our local rivals, and if, as has been reported, he wants more than Wednesday are willing to pay him, we won't be able to sign him as we won't be able to afford his wages.

Not to mention any loan or transfer fee. As Blackwell has said, 'the cupboard is bare'. The only players we'll be able to get in are youngsters on peanuts or loanees from bigger clubs who'll agree to pay their wages.

Why the cupboard is bare is a different conversation entirely. Good job we had Naughton and Walker to sell though, or presumably we've have gone bust by now with debts of £8m?

Fair play to Laws saying he can go out on loan if a club is intending on buying him, we should do the same with Killa, gripes me to say it but he doesn't want to be here, mistakes are becoming very costly, and we are carrying enough players as it is.

how do you know he doesnt want to be here???

how do you know he doesnt want to be here???
Because we are Columbo and Miss Marple and Inspector Morse and Spender and Bergerac.

Or because it's blindingly obvious.

"Here Matthew, have a load more cash to spoff away on white Range Rovers and that."

"It'd better be a fucking big load then Kevin. No, bigger than that please. Bigger. Bigger. FUCKING BIGGER, DAMN YOU!"

That's how.

According to "Vital Unclean" site we're after former Oinker, Richard Wood.

They claim he was one of their rejects but I thought he rejected them!

Personally I think he'd be a cracking signing for us.

He only signed a 3-year deal with Cov in January but I notice he was on the bench on Saturday so maybe Boothroyd doesn't fancy him?

I think he'd be good, and yes he did reject them, standard deluded pigs, of which a few had to be reminded this morning just what standard they are playing at!

Can't see us going for another CB. We've got Morgan, Bartley, Nosworthy and Ertl if necessary. Other areas are much more in demand

according to the star paper speed is intrested in richard wood. might be a good signing

We need players in other areas but I dont rate Wood that much since he moved to coventry.

He's just what we need. Aged 29, experienced centre back at league 1 and championship, strong, excellent in the air and a leader. Yes, I know it's an ex piglet, but tbh I couldn't care less. He's head and shoulders above anything we have an I bet we could get him for a small fee.
