From the O/S:

Several first-team squad players are set to feature for United's reserves when Shrewsbury Town provide the opposition at Bramall Lane on Wednesday afternoon (2pm kick-off).

Marcel Seip and James Harper both start as they look to gain some match sharpness following injury lay-offs. Ian Bennett, Andy Taylor, Jonathan Fortune and Jordan Stewart are also included for the totesport.com league clash.

Incidentally the Blades' last second string outing came against the same opposition over three months ago. Nathan Elder scored the only goal of the game at the Prostar Stadium back in November.

Blades: Bennett, Seip, Taylor, Wedgbury, Fortune, Lowton, Chappell, Harper, Foster, Slew, Stewart.
Subs: Brown, Billard, Williams, Maguire, Pennycooke-Morgan.
(2pm kick-off).

If anyone is going, a report would be appreciated, particularly on the performance of the youngsters.

Good game this afternoon. United deserved their 2-1 victory. Went behind against the run of play when Shrewsbury scored in their one and only attack of the first half with an own goal their players shot being deflected by Bennett. Matt Lowton equalised with a goal after their goalie couldn't hold on to a Taylor free kick. Jordan Slew got the winner after being put through by Lowton beating the goalie at the near post. United totally dominated the game with Lowton being MOM. He played at centre half in the first half and was dominant in the air and also passed the ball well. Second half Seip who had played right back went to centre half in a straight swap with Lowton. When Harper went off after 60 mins Lowton went into midfield and Conner Brown replacing him at full back. Fortune made a bad mistake close to the end and if it wasn't for two very good saves from Bennett they would have equalised. Of the young players on view Matt Lowton was far ahead of any of the others and looks good enough to me to be a first team candidate. Jordon Chappell on the right wing had some nice touches and beat his full back a few times to get crosses in. Nat Foster and Jordon Slew look as though they need more time to develope. They had a few chances between them but just lacked the experience to put them away. Jordon Stewart had plenty of the ball but did sweet F A with it and Fortune was O.K in the air but clumsy when it was on the floor. Couldn't rate a couple of the young un's because they weren't on the pitch lon enough. Overall a very enjoyable game and good performance by United.

Are Slew and Foster similar in style? Reasonably strong for their age and mobile? Good to hear about Lowton. Is he big/strong enough to make it at centre half or would he be more suited to midfield/full back? How does Brown compare to the Kyles?

Slew and Foster are big lads. Foster is good at holding defenders off and holding the ball but his fifnishing was poor today. Slew hasn't as much beef about him but looks a more skillfull player. He took his goal well. Lowton is not what you would call big and strong he looks about 5' 10" or 11" and around eleven and half stone to me but he can certainly get up to head the ball. Good passer of the ball and he never made a bad pass this afternoon He played in three positions today and didn't look out of place in any of em'. I think he could do a job at right full back or at the side of Morgan if needed. Conner Brown was only on about 15 minutes but looks as though he likes to join in the attack like the two Kyles. Looks like he needs to fill out a little yet.
