just wondered if anyone had any idea of realistic player we could/should be having a look at getting. A few that spring to mind are

Will Grigg :- spent last season on loan at MK Dons and got 20 goals in 44 games can clearly score goals and good to see he played a lot of games so not injured prone. I think the move up north may cause an issue.

Billy Sharp :- Adkins seems to get the best out of him and also lives up this way so no need to disturb the family

Jimmy Ryan :- did well for Chesterfield therefore knows the division again is local.

Obviously need central defenders so a few suggestions please.

Connor Goldson - CB for Shrewbury. He's been mentioned a couple of times and i've since seen a few videos of him, looks a real talent. He was one of 2 CB's in PFA L2 team of the year last season as well.

Seb Hines for the centre back position but he might be a bit pricey with his wages. Think he's been released from Boro and would be a real asset.

Ramos or santos- can't remember
Plays for Peterborough at CB, pacy, tall and strong. Very promising

One of the dangers of getting a proven manager (and he is at three levels) is that our expectations might be to high in that we expect players with as much stature as the manager.
It must be the hardest division to attract players, they see it as a retirement, end of life, failure move so using what we've got plus the obvious gaps in the team will probabley be the order of the day.
Then, when we get promotion we can set our sights higher.

Rob Jones from Doncaster? Haven't followed his progress for a couple years, mind you, but I used to know him as a solid CB. Tall, powerful, and contributes a good few goals.

Jos Hooiveld...free agent, just released by Southampton...signed for them by Nigel Adkins. Experienced, seen it all, done it all.

Got to be one we're interested in, surely.

You're speaking as if all signings have to be from the championship or premier. This is bollocks, we are the biggest club in the Bottom 2 divisions and should be cherry picking the best players from these divisions.

Like Wolves, The pigs and now Wigan have done.

Bollox post. Your not very good at reading what is written! I am saying not to expect championship players straight away, make do with what we have plus a couple of good CH's at this level. "Then when we get promoted set our sights higher"

Wolves made it look easy didn't they!?
There's your blueprint right there

I agree, we seem to always over-think things and have done so in the last 4 seasons. The task ahead is a very simple one for me. You look who was in the teams of the year, and who stood out and exceeded expectations in L1 & L2 as well as the players from each club in L1 that won player of the year and see if we like the look of them after further scouting/inspection. Then you ask yourself, does this player/players have the potential to develop from a lower league player into a high champ-prem player for example like Jamie Vardy, George Boyd and many others have done. Then, you sign them with our resources and pulling power of being a large club. As they are the best players in the division, it inevitably becomes highly probable that you will go on to storm the league as Wolves and the pigs have shown. In addition, we might actually have a few real talents on our hands that can help to aid our promotion push to the Premier League with less need of investment.

When did the Pigs storm the League we gave them promotion on a plate
I do agree with most of what you have said though

We handed it on a plate because we should have got more points than the huge amount we did get. Therefore they must have stormed it to get more points than us.

We were points in front we fucked up (as did Ched) they had a good run but it was in our own hands

We also had McDonald out injured for the last few games, and Maguire missed some due to a red card, so effectively, the "spine of the team" went missing at the end of the season.

Think he meant that they got up by signing L1 & L2 players.

Reda Johnson, Miguel Llera, Chris O'Grady etc.

Don't really want to use S6 as a benchmark on the signing of players .

Brian Laws , Paul Jewell , Dave Jones , all have two things in common . Out of work and managed SWFC.

We will have to pay over the odds , even for L1 and L2 quality players , and cannot go down , one for the future syndrome route.

Why not, put aside the stench of rancid pork and when all's said and done, they got out of this league and we didn't. And still haven't.

Agree, I'd just add that you also have to consider whether or not they'd fit into the system you want to play.

And, of course, the first step is to appoint a manager who's shown he knows how to get promoted; a Kenny Jackett or a Simon Grayson or Nigel Adkins.
