Shite.
Was half expecting him to crack out the glow sticks at one point the amount of times he was blowing his whistle.

Had to say average because I've seen far worse. Can't argue with the the penalty he gave, thought Rochdale would have more complaints about the one earlier where Baxter seemed to check their lad as he ran into the box. Otherwise typical stuff. Gave free kicks for a lot of niggles, let a bunch of heavy challenges go. No idea how it isn't a booking for flattening Scougall. No idea how Collins got away with a raised foot that seemed to clatter one of theirs at knee height. Thought our midfield were putting in a lot of silly challenges (because they mostly don't seem able to put in a good one) and the ref could've given a lot more against us.

Thought he'd forgotten his cards, but I can live with that to a certain extent, can't stand all this flashing cards around business, but.......
I have to ask though, where on earth did he get 6 minutes of injury time from in the first half ?

Wouldn't get his card out.

I have more of a problem with linesman at this level, who are there to assist referees. They struggle to even put their flag up for a throwing without referee approval

To be fair to the ref I thought the Scougall and Collins injuries accounted for at least six minutes.

Thought he was good. Let the game be played by men not little girls. They had the advantage as they knew how he refereed (see Roygbiv's Pre match View from Rochdale). They knew they could get away with physical manhandling from the off.
Clarkey87 thought the ref blew his whistle to often, in fact he was very sparing. In the past 6 games the foul court was:
Utd vs Rochdale 17 (6/11)
Utd vs Port Vale. 20 (13/7)
Utd vs Burton A. 19 (15/11)
Utd vs Donny. 16 (11/5)
Utd vs Bradford. 26 (7/11)
Utd vs Bury. 25 (8/17)
So yesterday's ref was very sparing with whistle and Rochdale took advantage while to often our players were expecting or looking for a foul.
Only negative was I thought foul on Scoogs was a straight red. Lead with forearm into the back of his neck and took him out. Think that's why their player was subbed off

Sorry my post must be misinterpreted - I was referring to how he blew his whistle constantly for pointless things when the game was stopped. He didn't do it enough during open play to protect our players from being fouled constantly and he certainly let their players get away with quite a lot.
The amount of times they fouled Sharp and Done and got away with it was ridiculous.

Collins kicked in the face = corner
Reed kicks someone in the face = foul

Lost count of how many should have been booked, on both sides. Scougall should have had a yellow for a high, rash challenge and he didn't even give a foul!

I've never before seen a referee with a preferred number of seconds after a foul to take a free kick. First half we had to take the majority twice because 'he wasn't ready', from 3-2 he was telling us to hurry up before ball and taker were in position.

Blatant penalty for Basham having his shirt removed missed by ref and lino.

For once the ref didn't seem incompetent or biased, he just seemed to be trying to be bad at his job. Linos looked to be doing their job blindfold. 2/10 from me.

A 2 from me and didn't get a 1 simply because I've seen worse!
The only booking was when Scougs was forearm smashed - should have been a straight red.
The amount of holding and pulling on Billy and Matt that went unpunished was ridiculous and yet he was fussy about having the ball moved half a yard for freekicks. Then despite not giving so many obvious fouls, he gives one when I think it was Billy outmuscled their defender with his shoulder and would have been through. Having said that, I don't think the Dale fans would have rated him highly either.

It's the total lack of consistency that's the problem.

Collins went for the ball, he didn't have to put his head that low, no ref would be giving that as a free kick

Suppose Collins nipped in first with his foot and gets kicked in the shin. That's a free kick.

Getting kicked in the face is ALWAYS a foul, irrespective of where the face is. A face being anywhere lower than head height is not an open invitation to kick it.

Edit: to clarify - 'foot up' and 'kick in the face' are two different offences.

I've herd a rumor that Billy's wife is citing their Centre Half in divorce proceedings after she witnessed Billy being mounted from behind on multiple occasions in a public place

The referee was the usual type of poor, weak, incompetent official that is prevalent at this level, aided by two morons with flags, one of whom seemed to enjoy tackling Billy !!
