His ankles. Probably a routine operation if he were a player in this day and age!
Your granddad 2nd right back row

Many thanks for that, Silent. When exactly is the picture from, about 54 ish?
1953. The shield is for the 2nd division championship. It will be just before the start of the 1953-54 season. Harry Latham is in the photo but he had already played his last game

I did actually wonder if it was the 2nd Division title, but I didn't think he was at the club then. Thanks again, Silent, very nice that.

His league debut was the 3-2 win at Everton on 18th Dec 1954. That season he made 7 league and 1 cup appearances scoring 5 goals. In 1955-56 1 league appearance and he scored a goal (v Bolton). In 1956-57 16 league apps, 4 goals also 3 FA Cup games, 1 goal. His last league match was at the end of the 1956-57 season against Forest. In the end of the season tour at West Germany and Holland he played in all 5 games and scoring 5 goals. His last goal and last game was in the 2-1 win against Ajax!
Strange he is in the 1953-54 squad photo but not in the 1954-55, 1955-56 and 1956-57 squad photos

Yes, I did know most of the above mate, which is why I was surprised when you said it was before the 53-54 season. His last league goal was a penalty in a 3-0 win at the Lane against a pre - Shankly Liverpool team in April 1957. Thanks again.

Line up and scorers details of the Liverpool match. Jimmy Hagan (aged 39) scored his last competitive goal too!

What about the virtually last kick of the game goals or extra late ones?

I remember you cost me a bet by equalizing around 5 past bloody 5 when all the other results were in and done n dusted, 02-03 season vs Forest, mightve been Tonge or Brown (usually was!) to make it 2-2. I was working in the bookies and had the videprinter up on one of the telly screens and my anguished scream 'nooooo', betting slip screwed up and hurled across the shop had everyone running for cover!!

That was probably the game where David Johnson bust his leg hence all the injury time.
Moral of the story..never bet on your team :(

1-1 draw at Forest in first game of the 2001-02 season? Devlin scored the equaliser right at the end. The 2002-03 season results between the sides were 0-3 at Forest and 1-0 at home (Asaba scored early in 2nd half)

Paul Devlin!! Yeah that was it.. Ex-Notts just to rub even more salt in the wound lol!
He mustve launched a few long throws for you anorl!

My memory of dates and games is useless from around that time because i was working every saturday (the joys of bookies work!) instead of going to games and consuming everything football like i can do again these days.

Nathan Blake's second at home to Burnley in 1994-5 was the last kick of the game. There was no time to restart.

Saw Flood score against the original Wimbledon at the Lane in the late 70s / early 80s, thought that was 8 seconds. Finished 1-0 so could have gone home then!

He scored in the 1st minute but later than 8 seconds. Wally Downes equalised with a penalty and Pedro Verde scored the winner

Not the first time I've made that mistake either, must be an age thing having false memories!

Billy's goal yesterday was slow by comparison to these examples but it must be one of our fastest goals in recent years.

Didn’t Woody score against Blackburn in 71 before they had touched the ball? So that must have been quite an early goal.

And I’ve got a hazy recollection of a game at Craven Cottage in the mid 80s when they scored a very early goal, dominated the half completely, but we equalised in the last minute of the half with virtually our first attack. The second half was much the same. They scored very early in the half, completely outplayed us, but we equalised in the last minute with one of our rare forays into their half. I think Tony Agana scored both our goals.

I remember that Woody goal. 20 seconds I recall

More like 5 seconds to me. We kicked off the 2nd half, passed straight to Roger Nilsen at left back, he decided to pass back to Alan Kelly (both always had a terrible misunderstanding) but Marco Gabbiadini was quick enough to slot the back pass into the net

The goal doesn't match what you describe.
