Pitch is no better, what it needs is £1million spending on it.

Happy days I remember it well. I was 16 at the time.

40 years ago this coming weekend, a quality goal was scored by a quality player and was described as such by a quality commentator.

A memorable piece of our rich history was created.

Life and football always seems more simpler then , when you reminisce but it wasn't.

Just over 25,500 at the lane . Was on the John Street terrace .They played you can do magic by Limmie and Family Cooking at half time . TC , match , weather all great on that day . Clough ought to show the video clip , to the current players ,so they the meaning of pulling on a red and white shirt .

Good battle with the Hammers on Shoreham vintage agro

I think he mis-hit that shot:)
TC gave 10/10 performance that day (only 4 times I have seen a 10/10 performance by a Blade) but I agree that he did mis-hit the shot as I had a good view of it from the BLUT. I think he meant to hit it to to top corner of the next to Day's right but it seemed the ball bobbled and the shot went to the bottom corner of Day's left. Day was wrong-footed. Even TC admitted that it wasnt one of his best goals

I think that goal will be one of the things I see when I'm lying on my death bed. Was right up at the back of the top, bang in line with the shot and will never forget the euphoria as it rolled over the line. Absolutely marvellous.

Madness all around before, during and after the game. Ran their lot ragged, including Mr Pennant getting a slapping in the old Pond Street bus shelter and all in all, one truly memorable day.

Them were the days lol, it was certainly lively from the minute we came out of the Whetstone as it was called then. W Ham turned up in large numbers that day and we were soon at it on Bramall lane.

That single moment as Currie puts the ball in the net was my all time defining moment as a Blade. That image and that game has never left my mind, and when I dement and my family have shifted me off to one of those special care homes the one image I'll probably retain will be that moment.

We were 2-0 down, and fought back to win 3-2. I was at the back of the kop as well (still go there today) and West Ham had brought some right old lumps as hooligans, it was kicking off all match and you spent one eye on the game the other making sure you weren't dragged into the fighting.

My recollections are a bit different to yours Mark.

I appreciate this is heresy, but I suspect people would not have such clear memories of the goal if it had not been televised....

And players never called for other players to get booked and if you got slapped outside you gave as good as you got till either you or them ran.No complaining to admin sorry meant the police;).

Cheers Silent, and all those years I've had it in my head that we came back from 0-2 down.
I seem to remember our goalie going up to catch a hopeful long ball from a Wham player , the ball hitting his chest and bouncing into the net for their goal, or have I got that wrong as well ? LOL

And there was none of this ringing your mates on your mobile to arrange a ruck.

Back then, you'd have to find a call box, insert your 2d and, when he answered, press the 'B' button. :D

Yes, it was Jim Brown who made the error as you can see in the footage below. Despite this he won the SUFC player of the season and a Scotland cap two months later
