and you can't really say that this particular Pulis signing laid the foundations for another 4 years in the Prem.

He certainly laid the foundation for the following season. They were down without another goalscorer. And then they built on that.

that was the sort if signing we needed in January 2007 and didn't make.

I forgot about Cresswell :)

"but some teams manage more than about 45 minutes in a season!"

So do we , theres been several decent wins even this season , but expecting anywhere near what we,d get in the prem is pie in the sky , or on a corrugated roof. We can afford tin pot players just now so have to accept we,ll see tin pot football, for the short term, occasionally we might put 4/5 passes together and all have a collective orgasm, but itll be more a mis placed pass falling to one of our own more than likely .
If we train them to play lovely stuff , will what we can afford put it into practise , theres the dile, dailem, direlima,,,,problem

and I agree entirely that it is, indeed, a problem.

What gives me the slight encouragement that it might be possible is the memory (getting more distant by the season admittedly) of Howard Kendall taking over from Harry and, within a matter of days, getting them to play significantly better football.
There is little doubt he started with better players than we've got now though!

I remember at the time saying how different we looked in the warm up when Macca stepped up to coach with us knocking it around, one touch stuff etc............then the game started :(

Agree about Kendall, the transformation with the same players was unbelievable in a very short space of time.

To be fair though, Kendall totally rejigged the team almost from day 1

He signed Vonk, Heath and Patterson in time for his second game on 23/12/95; Short and Cowans before the new year; Hutchison in early Jan; Walker in Feb and Taylor and Ablett (loan) in early March. Within 2 and half months of him taking over only Kelly, Nilsen, Ward and Whitehouse were still regular first teamers from the Bassett era.

weve had Cresswell and Beattie but never had a delap who could throw a ball accurately and more than 10 yards. Derr

What about Pembos forward roll throw?

Only ever saw it once. Wonder why he didn't do it again?

hutchinson , ahh there was a player who could pass...................................................
cowans too

Kendall also had a mass clear out in that two and half months: Gage, Gannon, Rogers, Hodges, Blake, Veart, Tuttle, Davidson, Blount, Foran, R.Scott and Battersby all went.

9 players in and 12 out in around 80 days. We must have had a fax machine that worked then

not Gannon nooooooooooo you cant let the welsh Beckenbauer go

(scorer of the best blades away goal ever, Gannon the cannon as he was known for a fortnight )

cant get Amy Tuttle out of my head now
