In my youth, I used to think that The Blades would never be allowed to drop out of the Football League because the fans and the board wouldn't allow it. With such a strong, large and passionate fan base, surely someone would come along and save the day? Surely the crowd would demand and the board would act before it was too late? It was a gimme in my youth that this would never be allowed to happen.

However, I can now see that, after years and years of mismanagement and underachieving, all this passion has given way to apathy and, if we ever were in that hypothetical position, it's more likely that we would sink without trace before anyone could be bothered to lift a finger. Same applies to our current position. Take a bow you gallant few who protested in the car park about the appointment of Wilson. Rightly or wrongly, you showed passion and conviction in the belief that you were making a stand for your club. I fear we shall never see your like again at this club.

Oxford only ever had 4 years in the top flight (84-88) and were a mushroom growth funded by Maxwell's money. Luton were a fixture in the first division in the 80's and had a good team (Ricky Hill, Brian Stein and so on). They were also in the first division in the 50's and reached the cup final in 1959.

So I reckon Luton are quite clearly the biggest club to lose their league status.

If they managed to get back to L1 level and were finally able to either totally upgrade their stadium or move then they'd get 10-12k without a problem. Support wise, they are similar to their rivals Watford.
