Wilson was quoted in the Star saying the Carling Cup was a "major priority".

“Going as far as we can in the tournament could bring a lot of funding in and that could be the difference between one or two players."

How much is the prize money? Could it really fund a move for McDonald without having to sell anyone?

A good run usually means an encounter with a bigger club somewhere along the way though which would generate income. The prize fund is probably quite small as you say but a cup run generates income outside of prize money.

If the players we're after are on a (relatively) small wage then I think Wilson is spot on.

I think he maybe thinking about a couple of home ties with the PL glamour clubs.

Right, yeah...I recall the prize money for progressing to round 2 on Football Manager (not quite real life..) being about £5k so a glamour tie it is.

bigger gates = more revenue

True, but what kind of crowd would we get against the Boltons, Sunderlands etc ? The likes of ManU and Arsenal field youth teams and we tend to reduce ticket prices so I can't honestly see it being the big earner that would make the difference in getting a player or not.

In Division Three, 50 - 100K raised from a 10,000 crowd is a lot of extra money

Would we clear 100K on, say, a 10-15K crowd paying an average of, say £10 a ticket given the reduced prices / offers that would be in place ?

Granted, but as long as we are in it, we will keep bringing in some revenue as opposed to nothing at all, so I don't think it's a bad thing at all, confidence breeds confidence, and we might make winning a habit as well!

Well let's say 10,000 would bring in 75k, plus prize money..... minus costs - I think you'd be looking around 50k in credit (obviously gate receipts are split.

£50k might not sound much, but it's 50k more than we would have....

Lets not also forget that the further we go in the cup the more chance we'll have of the game being broadcast live. So theres TV money to put into the equation!!

The winners of the League Cup win £100,000 and the runners-up win £50,000. The losing semi-finalists will each take home £25,000.

NOT MUCH IS IT

fa CUP WINNERS GET 2 MILLION

promotion to the prem 50 million

makes you think

well everyone pays , whereas league games 14000 +- are season tickets

a home draw v liverpool is really the only way it becomes a money spinner

IF, the money gets split evenly, aren't we best drawing a team like Newcastle, Man Utd, Arsenal away?

Bigger crowd plus none of the costs.

Aye according to Smegson, Wednesday get 100k from TV rights, for tonights match alone, hence why they agreed to play on the Thursday because they needed the money.

ok whats prize money for j paint cup . anyone know.

If the league cup is 100k then I think the paint cup is anything up to a re-coating of the red and white paint on the seats of the South stand.

Wonder what crowds we've budgeted for this season. Guess the club will get some idea over the next few games how many fans are prepared to pay on the day every week.

If the club is pleasantly surprised then DWs logic follows that he could get a signing out of that. Obviously if league attendances look like being below budget then any cup run will just fill some that gap and not go to new players.
