The 0-5 in '88 was somewhere between Pearl Harbor & Nagasaki.

Billy 'stick and the carrot, but without the carrot' McEwan's last game and guess who cam along to replace him.....

I'd driven over 200 miles from Troon to get there and was still half pissed after a Scottish New Year.

United were so bad that the Kop were cheering Oldham passes after 4-0 and chanting for more goals.

That game is definitely up there with Port Vale (Heath) and Burton. An absolutely abysmal and embarrassing performance.

“3 at the back for saturday”

It's gonna be like an attacking masterclass between two sides thrillingly throwing caution to the wind...

(0-0 written all over it.)

Guadalcanal?

And on that theme, bonus points for anyone who can tell me what I'm quoting...

We were a family. How'd it break up and come apart, so that now we're turned against each other? Each standing in the other's light. How'd we lose that good that was given us? Let it slip away. Scattered it, careless. What's keepin' us from reaching out, touching the glory?

Worst performance I've ever seen from a United team.

The 2-3 defeat to Oldham was a crucial point in that season. We threw 3 points away and I remember Doyle also hit the post at 2-0. Maquire was given a straight red and conceded a penalty, but then Lowton threw the ball away and got a second yellow.

We then went to walsall with a makeshift defence. I think we got an emergency loan? We went on to lose the game. I'm convinced that should have been 6 points won.

That 3-2 game was a horrific day, in what seemed at 4:15 to be a routine home win.

I think that cost us promotion because lost to the unmentionables by 2pts & if a guaranteed 3 points were ever dropped it was then, because we home & dry then fans players got complacent thinking game over instead of going fir 3rd & oldham took full advantage of our complacency But also didnt help ref playing 7mins of 4mins added time

In 1988, Oldham beat us 5-2 at the Lane. Whilst the official record books might show 0-5, I know for a fact that I scored two goals past the OAFC keeper before the game kicked off in the warm up. I was "lucky" mascot that day and I didn't know that I couldn't dribble past all their players and score a goal. I got a cheer from the United fans so I did it again. Therefore, 5-2. :)

I was "lucky" anyway - McEwan got sacked and, despite relegation a few months later, we got Bassett and two and a half years later, we were promoted in Leicester with Deane and Agana running riot. All down to me. Sad thing for me is that I have a picture with my favourite player at the time - Tony Philliskirk FFS - when Agana turned up a couple of weeks later and he is my favourite SUFC player ever.

Always like to see us beat Oldham since.

As a kid I moved from Sheffield to Oldham (still trying to forgive my parents for that) in 1988. Oldham were at their peak during those years. The best memory for me was beating them 7-2 in the Zenith Data Systems Cup and it being a mufty (no school uniform) day the next day where I wore my deck chair Blades shirt to school!

I've had a hatred for OAFC ever since so todays result is wonderful.
