Praise for Jose Baxter

It'll arrive with Sitwell's next post on here I should think.

I suppose three months can be a very long time in football, in particular on these pages, but I suppose it's plenty of time for Jose to resurrect from anathema to all conquering hero.

What's the saying, " the greatest comeback since Lazarus"?!:)

No, the saying is "find one of my previous posts questioning Baxters ability ?" and I'll say fair enough, otherwise WTF, WWF? :)

You misunderstand me. It's not about your previous comments, sorry it appeared that way. It's about the extremes of opinion that collectively we S2'ers are capable of as a group. Three months ago there were threads on here crucifying the lad. In all his time with us he has been a "fat, lazy b******" and "not fit to wear the shirt". Maybe less than a handful of posters would stick up for him but hordes would just stick the boot in.

Suddenly it's the fashion to put him on a pedestal and frankly the praise is O.T.T.

Better that way though. Pleased for the lad, but he has a long, long way to go to prove he can consistently contribute. It will help if he plays every game, but there are still doubts he can last 90 minutes week in week out. If he is played in his preferred positions he might well become a key man, but remember he was only sub at Bradford in late September and which was his first good game of the season I reckon. He came on after an hour and was involved in two key moments. Since then he has played well when picked.

As one who stuck up for Baxter over the months, even to a small degree over the drugs thing, I now take this post as the joke that's intended. Irony makes great humour.

I've just re-read your original post and with the benefit of your explanation, it is so obvious that it's a general comment aimed at all members of the forum rather than me as an individual. I mean it's not as though you quoted my post or anything, sorry I must be getting paranoid

He's been our best player this season and should be the first name on the team sheet. It's good to see him finally knuckling down and showing his talent on a more consistent basis than he has done up to now. Being played in a settled position and being given the license to create play and try things has helped too. As others mentioned, 3 or 4 of his passes on Saturday were absolutely sublime, the kind of passes that no one else in the side would be able to do.

The way things are going though I can see him being sold in January. He's out of contract in the summer, he's performing well in a very poor side and we just love to cash in on such players.

He was a lazy fat bastard and wasn't worth a shirt ,no he has gained some focus and at the moment is.
I still have a problem with fitting him into the side no matter how well he is playing. We cant play him with just 1 other midfielder so 4-4-2 is no good ,so Adkins is shoehorning him in on the right or we would lose a striker. The question is do you build a side around him or does he adapt to whats round him. He has to keep this form going or he becomes a waste.

Agree and I've always said exactly that, he's a No.10 or nothing. Whether the manager will want that longer term is debatable.

Same problem with Sharp definitely, Scougall, Reed to a degree due to his size ( not a problem for me) and for some strange reason Done.

As it happens they would be my first names on the teamsheet plus Brayford when fit and yes I'd "build a side round them".

Entirely possible with 4 /4.5 /1.5 or preferably 3-5-2.

Baxter behind Sharp would lack movement and pace, not an ideal front duo in my opinion.
