It can't have been much to look forward to, having won only 4 away games all season and now facing Sheffield United on the penultimate game of the season away. A 4 hour drive, when the match is on telly anyway, and having been already relegated. Why come?
Why?
Because the 500 or so that were there were TRUE supporters. Not only that, but they were proper sportsmen (or women).
They were an absolute credit to their club.
They even organised their own "relegation party" with blue and white balloons!
They applauded the United kids at half-time - and at full-time many of them stayed behind to applaud United. I was very impressed by them. Very impressed.
And I thought it was wonderful that, at the end of the game, McGoldrick's first priority was to go and hug his ex-Ipswich team-mates and applaud their wonderful fans. And their wonderful fans applauded back.
That was a class act Ipswich.
And Sinclair was at his best, offering them our respect and wishing them all the best for the future.
He said everything I thought!
Well done Ipswich! You may not have won out today, but you won a lot of admirers with the way you went about the game. You played the game in the right spirit and showed respect from every player and fan to the occasion.
Really hope you turn it round next season!
