Just looking at the FA Cup 4th round fixtures. Middlesboro have been drawn at home to Newport County, so will be huge favourites to advance to the 5th round which is scheduled for the weekend 16th Feb.

Will be really hoping Boro beat Newport because our rivals fixtures for February will be

Sat 2nd AWAY to West Brom
Sat 9th HOME to Leeds
Weds 13th AWAY to Sheff Utd
Sat or Sun 16th probably a big 5th round FA cup tie
Sat 23rd HOME to QPR

The matches against WBA and Leeds will be really tough, so could knock their confidence before they play us. Also if they have a big FA cup tie against a Man U, Man C, Newcastle derby then these matches usually create a distraction on the match immediately preceding their massive cup game.

Maybe I’m scraping the barrel but there’s a fair chance that Boro might be battle weary with their eyes on a bigger match (in the cup) when they turn up for their Wednesday night game at the Lane.

Also both Middlesboro and Derby County will be big favourites to reach at least the 5th round which means they will need to squeeze in at least 2 extra fixtures towards the end of the season, so they could face a fixture pile up, which would mean they need to use their squad players.

Us, Leeds and Norwich are all out of the cup so can focus on the promotion battle.

Not worried about Boro anyway but I get your rationale:)

At least it means Boro could come to the Lane with distractions. So we have more chance of winning.
We should be trying to win almost all our remaining home games, most of them are against teams in the bottom half.
The away games all look quite tough though, mainly play teams in the top half.

If they’re wanting to rest players, maybe we could lend them Johnson back.
