Right, i've had a scout through the Premier League squads, and have come up with a list of possibles. Not saying we should go for any of these, but think these players could be on the fringe of their sides first team and any of these could be on Blackwell's radar!

Craig Gardner - Villa
Isiah Osbourne - Villa
Tugay - Blackburn
Scott Sinclair - Chelsea
Alexei Smertin - Free
Richard Hughes - Pompey
Julio Arca - Sunderland
Graham Kavanagh - Sunderland
Dickson Etuhu - Sunderland
Taarabt - Spurs
Ghaly - Spurs
Chris Brunt - West Brom
Michael Brown - Wigan
Jason Koumas - Wigan
 

An interesting list SotonBlade (and a slow day in the office!).

How does Tonge compare to that lot?

The ones in bold are worth a punt in my opinion.

Arca is at Boro.

but all (except Etuhu) would be ideal

I think these would all be worth a loan move

I would say Brunt but think he has been playing recently

Cant see the two villa boys added anything more than what tonge did, tugay and kavanagh are good players but next to speed i dont think a centre of midfield (the engine room) with a combined age of over 70 been too good. smertin? wages would be a issue i think! Hughes would be ok but isnt someone that can change a game! arca isnt really a centre mid player (quality left back tho), etuhu? do i even need to comment? no thankyou! ghaly, sure he went to derby? (good player tho but would he be another fathi?) brown, im split on him is he really still the player we all remember him to be, can he do it again? sadly i think the answer is no (not sayin i wouldnt be happy to sign him, just dont think he is ideally what we need)

This leaves taarabt, brunt and koumas. Brunt is a left winger so not specifically what were looking for unless he has plans to move squinny inside? But I would be very happy with the above 3 coming to the lane out of the list below.

Where are our scouts these days? With all the links we have for clubs in other countries maybe we should look further afield outside the UK?
 
Brunt and Koumas would be excellent.

Rumour has it mind that one is one we won't know much about so probably a Man Ure youngster!
 
Heard a rumour it could be Brown and a winger from Middlesborough :)
 

Glenn Whelan. Loan tied up as part of the deal with Tonge. ;)

Heard we're just waiting to confirm Brown when the window opens!

SHEFFIELD United are confident of making at least one signing before their visit to Derby County later this month.
Kevin Blackwell has received clearance to recruit a new midfielder on loan when the Football League re-opens for business next week following Michael Tonge's transfer deadline busting move to Stoke.

And the United manager, who is focusing his search on the Premiership, is also believed to have resurrected his interest in bringing a new winger to Bramall Lane.

With Tonge completing his £2m switch to the Britannia Stadium just seconds before Monday's midnight cut-off point, Blackwell is determined to bolster his squad ahead of the September 13 fixture at Pride Park.

He told The Star: "I'm looking at bringing someone from the Premier League.
 
Adam Johnson from 'Boro was mentioned on RS today. Looked good when he came on against us last year if its the player I'm thinking about
 
I hope these loans come sooner rather than later, get a weeks training in to minimize unfamiliarity with new team mates.
