Because hey, it was disappointing, but first game of the season

I have 3 positives

1. Wes - continued the solid form from last season
2. Jebbo's best all-round performance for us. Looked a much better forward than last season.
3. Ndiaye carried on where he left off

And we played a team with the best attack in the league and they created little with 4 of our best defenders out.

I don't think it's cause for as much as concern as most seem to.

It was another patched up defence with so many missing. Ciaran Clark really struggled on that right hand side and RND doesn't belong at LCB. Stevens continued his run of poor form.
You'd hope that Anel, Bash & Robinson (fingers crossed it's nothing serious) all come back and suddenly we will look much steadier back there.

Our midfield and attack was disjointed. Too many players were too far apart and we struggled to retain possession high up the field.
Fleck started OK but got worse as the game went on. He gifted them their goal in spectacularly poor fashion. However, we know Fleck blows hot & cold. He often starts slow. He will improve.
We have Doyle to hopefully come in and improve our XI and if rumours are to be believed this James McAtee might be signing and he looks a hell of a talent.
Berge and Ndiaye still look like premium players at this level and if we can keep hold of them they will ensure we are dangerous.
Khadra looked promising when he came on, direct and fast. When he settles in he will be a great option to have in the pack.

Up front, I don't expect Jebbison to be our main man, though his potential is starting to look obvious (even to me, a previous denier).
OK, he can look a little lost sometimes, but at 6'3-6'4, with that mobility and also that calmness in front of goal I think he's destined for a great career.
Having said all of that, we're going to be relying on Sharp again. All of our eggs are in his basket as we just don't have anyone else capable of playing that lone striker role (not sold on Brewster, enough evidence of McBurnie).
This is the one thing that does genuinely worry me looking ahead to the season. He's 36 and coming back from a long lay-off. His body is not going to cope with the demands of 2 games a week. We must sign another centre forward and if we get that signing right, we could challenge at the very top.

Our attacking play is too rigid, there's still a lingering hangover from the Wilder era. Ball goes to Norwood who pings it wide, we check back, work a triangle, give it away, start again...
But the encouraging thing is we have Doyle, possibly McAtee, Khadra, Berge, Ndiaye and maybe even Arblaster who can - if they click - make us a force.

We’re playing the top of the division on sat :-(

Think we'd lost that game before a ball was kicked as we went to contain their front 3. PH's post match comments seem to confirm this.

Cutting but accurate comments from our womens guest forward in the studio on Watford " Faster, fitter, stronger. Nothing new there when it comes to the type of negative away performance that became all too familiar in the second half of last season. Clark gets a pass because he was played out of position. RND is not a LCB as he fails to see whats going on around him much better at LWB. We've discussed at length what the options are when Norwood is pressed out of the game. Its definitely not Osborn on the right who had a shocker when he came on but again some mitigation for being played out of position. As for Lowe hard to put into words how bad a cameo that was.

PH not had a good night neither has the team. We were told the poor pre season last year was the reason for the poor start. It seems not much has changed this season with poor results, strange formations, 2 games in 24 hours and new injuries occurring. The icing on the cake is our attempt to seek legal advice to delay Anels suspension a few days before the game because we were not aware of it. Just do the due diligence FFS.

Agree some pluses with Ndiaye, Wes and Jebbinson but a lot needs to improve if we are going to something out of the game against our perennial bogey team the Wall.

We kept the best front 3 players in world football (according to Lee Hendrie and the other sky goon) down to just 1 goal, which we gifted them. So really we drew 0-0, i think. Which as we all know that when your away from home is worth celebrating like a mmmmassive victory.

Positives:

Ndiaye looked stronger and more accurate his passing, building on his improvement at the end of last season.

Khadra looks like he will be a good loan signing which will hopefully shake mf up a bit.

Loads of players to come back in/improve their fitness from injury.

Maybe losing a whole 0-1 to the promotion favourites in our first match of the season with lots of injuries will encourage some of our more hysterical fans to pack it in for good.

Not sure that Jebbison is ready to lead the line of a promotion chasing side, he looked better than last season just don't think he's quite ready yet.
Ndiaye looks like he's toughened up and learned from MGW, just wish he could brush up on his finishing.

We have No one in the team / squad / club who can win the ball in midfield. Someone who does the dirty work and gives the ball to the like of Berge to weave his magic.
it has been obvious during the whole of Wilders managerial reign and has not change since.

Khadra looked very promising when he came on. Ndiaye took the mgw responsibility, will be interesting to see how he sits with Khadra.

Lowe offered something different, but didn't seem to know where the runners were going, but a few games time that would be good.

Another positive is that there is still time in the transfer window to replace Fleck.

Against a quick, skilful front three who will tear most teams in this league a new'un...it was only 0-1

You say Fleck gifted them the goal. It was RND who failed to cut out the pass, and it was Lowe who followed them instead of tracking the man at the back post. All three contributed to the goal.

On his showing, Lowe has no place near this first team and should be shipped out.

Fitter, faster, stronger was exactly the key, they just did the running and pressing high up the pitch to win the ball back and force mistakes, just the energy to get around the pitch,do the graft and hard work and quickly get it to the pace men to do damage.Their final ball wasn't all that good or they would have had more.
When are we going to get some real powerhouses in midfield who are going to chase and win ball, press, close down and get the tackles in?

We didn't get promoted so we don't have to suffer that embarrassment every game

Jebbo looked a bit better than what we saw last season.
Brewster looked okay.
Sharp is back.
Wes is still good.
Egan looked more like his old self.
Baldock didn't get injured (we don't have cover).
If Watford had a bit more confidence we'd have been looking at a very bad start to the GD column.

Loan him to Notts County just to piss Forest off.
