Surely Defence is where the problem is :-

This season the number of times dropped points from winning positions: 19
Total points dropped : 56

Anel and Souza dealt with balls lobbed into the box and long booted forward hoofs, currently we are very susceptible to the majority of Championship teams style of play.

If it's the defence why are we not getting smashed from the start of games and instead taking the lead? The problems run much deeper and I would start at fitness. Though i agree with missing Souza.
But people complained last season when we held on to 1-0's. It is possible if you have a good defence Coventry are a prime example of an excellent defence, we need improving.

Is the issue not the midfield? - as in when we have our "best" midfield on the pitch we are competitive (and indeed better than many teams) but once we hit 60-65 mins our midfield runs out of legs and we just get run through/overrun by the opposition.

Last season it felt like as long as we were one up, we'd probably be able to hang on - this season its more like we need to be 2 up - and we are somewhat profligate in front of goal as evidenced by the first half on Saturday...

Jairo leaves the pitch, the entire midfield is given up. We signed Phillips and Rothwell to address this issue and its been a complete waste of money.

We are back to having a half knackered Arblaster and a rare Tom Davies appearance. Soumare has been kidnapped I assume? At least he has athleticism and drives the ball forward.

Matos frozen out and essentially on the transfer list.

That's why we lose so many points and why the play-offs were never likely.

Sellés fault that

Cross-posting seeing as we have a bunch of similar threads:

Sometimes we are pretty decent when we have the ball. Unfortunately we dont seem to have a scooby when we haven’t got it.

While I probably did, it was more that it was clearly an unsustainable run, and that when it regressed to the mean we'll look like the dictionary definition of mid table mediocrity. Which is exactly what has happened. Obviously, selling your only good centre back and best central midfielder and not adequately replacing them doesn't help matters.

I don't think last year we were overperforming over and above a mid table team. To my mind we were a 75 point team, i.e. firmly in the playoffs who were able to be incredibly efficient resulting in those extra 15-17 points.

If course it did us no good whatsoever. Most seasons we'd have been in with a shot of the title with our point total, rather than a distant 3rd.

All over the pitch had we gone in 3-1 up at halftime saturday would have been a fair reflection. We miss too many chances and cant keep clean sheets

Our midfield is poor lacks athleticism, physicality and fitness no defensive protection which doesn't help a struggling defence Wrexham like many before them showed how weak it is in the last 30.

Jairo goes off one of our best players who hasnt been here all season replaced by Arblaster who has still not shook his injury mentally and Tom Davies who has lego legs and 99% of the ground knew we wouldnt win it.

I know it's unrealistic to think we should grind out every game 1-0 but if we did on that we would be on 106 points, 26 points clear of Coventry and already promoted. But realistically a side with ambition for example the Fulham side of 21/22 that finished on 90 points to win the league had Mitrović that scored 43 times for them that season. It's been a while since we have had a striker score 1/2 that, would have put a lot more of those games to bed and how hard is the championship really? We have made it look incredibly easy and incredibly difficult in the same game at times, away at Wrexham was one example same with away at Leicester another although we hung on to that.
