For the benefit of those who didn't come online this morning:

From midnight until 11:45am, every member who logged on to the site was forced to read this thread and directed towards the attachment. The thread was closed, so no one could add replies.

Highbury Blade started another thread to discuss the issue, which turned into a process of dawning realisation for those who hadn't read the letter too closely!

Due to the amount of worried PMs/emails/Facebook messages, I've got to send an email round to reassure everyone that we're still here! :D

Happy April Fool's Day everyone...

The letter containing further details and the members involved can be found attached to this post.

Thanks for your PMs, but we really can't give any more details than what you find in the attached PDF.

Please read this before asking us questions.

Dear All

We've had a bit of a worrying letter passed on to us from our ever-patient hosts and it seems that while we have got away with much mischief up to now, the days of shenanigans have unfortunately got to come to an end.

A firm of solicitors has been in touch with them about libellous forum posts regarding one person who shall now remain nameless. This is not the first time our hosts have been contacted about certain things which have been appeared on the forum and they have always been fairly accommodating and keen to fight our cause.

It does however seem that this letter is the straw that has broken the camel's back. They are, quite reasonably enough, fed up of us causing them trouble.

We've been on the phone for the last couple of hours and despite our appeals for leniency, our hosts have given us two stark options:

1) Comply with the demands of the solicitors. This would mean deleting the posts and giving them the member details that they want so they can possibly pursue individual action against those involved

2) Close the forum down immediately until we can find someone else who is willing to host it

Due to the short time frame given by the solicitors, we have had to come to a speedy decision. Out of principle, we refuse to pass on the details of our members so we are only left with the second option. In the meantime, we will censor the name of the person involved throughout the forum.

We will aim to be back online as soon as possible, but obviously the transfer will take some time and we will struggle to find a host who will give us the level of service we have been used to.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank Evohosting for all their patience in the last five years and solemnly swear that the site will be back online as soon as possible. Keep an eye on our Twitter feed for updates: http://www.twitter.com/s24su

Apologies for the inconvenience and many thanks for your understanding in this matter.

FAO Linz and Foxy

I commend your principles in refusing to release the details of the particular member whose posts have led to the (hopefully temporary) closure of the site.

I'm sure i can speak for a lot of ex BU members when i say that this site and it's members were by far the most welcoming to BU refugees when BU closed down.

Not only that but i've also loved the fact that this site has been consistently moderated with a mature policy, that must take up enormous amounts of your personal time.

I've donated a small amount before to the site, but i would be willing to donate more funds to the site if needs be to keep it alive.

I hope you find another host soon.

Liam

Oh dear, What has the wold come down to? Something when you are un able to call someone what they are.... Fat.
The last line of the PDF made me laugh.

AFD are wrong. I have it on good authority 'Fatty' like Rustlers Chicken Burgers. NOT the beef ones! :)

I like the odd custard doughnut. Some people eat these items with dignity. SOME PEOPLE CAN LOOK COMPLETELY OBSCENE AND OFFENSIVE WHILE EATING SUCH ITEMS AND SHOULD BE AWARE OF THE WEIGHT OF PUBLIC OPINION TOWARDS SUCH ACTIONS AND ONLY EAT THEM IN PRIVATE SO AS TO NOT OUTRAGE PUBLIC DECENCY.
I always eat mine in private.

And me, I was mad with rage until I got to the last line.

:)

I did the typical bloke thing of not actually reading what I had been told to read. After checking that I wasn't being taken to court I was telling Foxy to jack it in as it wasn't worth that kind of shit. :D
I went on so much Foxy had to tell me before I bored him to death.

I think everyone who was taken in should throw a tenner into the donations.

It had me absolutely fooled until the last two paragraphs of the lettter. I was really disappointed up to that point and then those comments plus the date twigged :D

I fooled my Mrs this morning and promised that there was no way anyone was going to fool me this morning

You of all people. Now i have to get my Itello meter recalibrated.:D

Excellent prank. Had me fooled until I read the line about "Fatboy and Fatty" as that's clearly not libellous.

Personally I think it would have even funnier if you'd said that full details of the offenders had been passed on to Fatboy's lawyers. Then sit back and watch the outrage!
